The Primera Division champions opted to trigger the buy-back clause they inserted in Suarez's deal as part of his move to Villarreal after seeing how swiftly he developed once handed regular first-team football this past season.
The 22-year-old scored five goals and made 11 assists in 48 total appearances for Villarreal during the 2015-16 campaign, starting in 36 of those outings.
Patricia Perez published an article on Barcelona's official website in June titled "Denis Suarez, two years of development," chronicling the progress the midfielder has made first on loan at Sevilla before moving to Villarreal.
Suarez first moved to the Camp Nou from Manchester City in 2013, and after impressing in 36 appearances for Barcelona B in 2013-14, he was given the chance to get senior minutes with a loan move to Sevilla in 2014-15.
After grasping his chances in Seville, the fully fledged Spain international was then transferred to Villarreal last summer, but Barca made sure to include a buy-back clause in the deal, evidently aware of his talent.
Suarez will hope to make more of an impact at the Camp Nou this time around, and Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo (h/t Mirror's Ed Malyon) previously confirmed the player sought first-team assurances before making his return.
