Rain could dampen the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.
With no Triple Crown intrigue surrounding this weekend's race, the rain may be enough for a lackluster crowd in New York.
This rain could hinder Exaggerator's chances at winning two-thirds of the Triple Crown and open the door for someone else.

There won't be any Triple Crown winners this year or storybook endings. There is a chance for Exaggerator, however, to make history.
"What's cool for me? There's no issues with this horse," Exaggerator's trainer Keith Desormeaux said Friday, per the Associated Press (via USA Today). "He's eating well, the energy's there, the color is good. As far as my preparation and the expectations of what we've done through the horse, I really can't ask my horse to be doing any better. He doesn't seem to be showing the rigors of three top races in five weeks."
That's good news for Exaggerator, but the rain could make it a more competitive race. Mike Dempsey of Odds Shark also noted the betting favorite heading into the Belmont Stakes isn't always guaranteed the winner.
Before American Pharoah's triumphant run last year, no betting favorite has won at Belmont since 2005 when Afleet Alex won.
This could open the door for a horse like Lani, as Vic Cangialosi of the New York Post predicted, to swoop in and take the win.
"Connections say he loves it at Belmont, where he has been training extensively since the Derby," Cangialosi said. "Can run all day. Flies under the radar as well as the wire to steal the third jewel."
There are a lot of factors that could hinder the outcome of this race. Exaggerator's the favorite, but it's not a sure thing he'll come out victorious. It should be an enticing race on Saturday. In the end, go with the favorite. Exaggerator will win the whole enchilada.
