Davis Tears Ulnar Collateral Ligament, Expected to Recover for Training Camp

Wednesday, June 8

Brian Costello of the New York Post reported on Davis' injury Wednesday, and the news was confirmed by Jets head coach Todd Bowles, per Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press. Per Costello, New York expects Davis to be fully healed by July.

Davis played in all 16 games for New York last season, registering three receptions for 18 yards and a touchdown.

The 30-year-old began his career with the Chicago Bears and has had stints with six different teams. He didn't record a reception in 2014, but he proved to be a serviceable player for the Jets in 2015.

Although Davis isn't known for his pass-catching prowess, he is an experienced veteran who is especially valuable as a run-blocker.

New York didn't go to tight ends often in the passing game last season. Davis had 11 targets, while Jeff Cumberland had five catches on 13 targets. The team has plenty of weapons on the outside between Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Devin Smith.

But with 2014 second-round pick Jace Amaro coming off a torn labrum, which kept him out for all of 2015, the Jets' depth at tight end is quite thin for now with Davis going down.

The silver lining is Amaro can keep knocking off the rust with increased reps. Sure-handed backup Zach Sudfeld is likely to see an increased opportunity to make plays as well.
