WWE Money in the Bank 2016: Predicting Most Likely Swerves at Marquee PPV

Aaron BowerJun 8, 2016

WWE's New Era gets its boldest and bravest test at June 19's Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

There have been many positive steps forward for the company since WrestleMania 32, but this show represents the biggest marker yet of whether the company is ready to move forward and trust some of its up-and-coming talent.

The marquee Money in the Bank match is obviously the biggest indicator of WWE's intentions, but with matches pitting new versus old all across the card, here is where the biggest drama is likely to occur.

Sasha Banks Stuns Charlotte

After suffering a legitimate concussion which halted her impressive momentum, Sasha Banks is slowly working her way back to full fitness.

Her late-May victory against Summer Rae on Main Event was her first in-ring performance since mid-April, and with that particular obstacle cleared, she can now set her sights on a swift return to the top of the standings and the Women's Championship.

Banks seemed a certain champion of the future as recently as a few weeks ago, and don't expect her concussion to change that. WWE simply cannot ignore her momentum and her popularity with fans, and it may opt to pull a swerve at Money in the Bank to bring her back in style.

It looks like Charlotte and Dana Brooke will take on Becky Lynch and Natalya in a tag match, but when the match finishes and the champion and Brooke begin to assault their opponents, that would be the perfect moment to bring Banks back to WWE TV good and proper.

She could make the save, take down Charlotte or even appear with Ric Flair alongside her, setting up a Charlotte-Banks rivalry that can run right through to SummerSlam.

A Seventh MITB Candidate

The promo work and posters for the Money in the Bank match have been confusing, to say the least.

At first it was billed as a seven-man match, but as soon as the first six men qualified, it suddenly became a lock that there would be no extra participants.

Indeed, the posters changed from having a silhouette of a seventh candidate to simply the six men already entered in the bout.

Will we see another MITB entrant?

That was done without little explanation, but what it does mean is that those plans could change yet again.

And if they do change, expect the swerve to come as late as seconds before the match begins, potentially by bringing someone back from an injury absence to make an explosive return in the show's marquee match.

It could be Bray Wyatt, flanked by The Wyatt Family to instantly make him a heavy favorite to claim the briefcase. Or it could even be Randy Orton, another star who has been out of action for a good while now. Maybe it could even be someone like Finn Balor, to set him up for his first few months on the main roster in style.

Either way, no matter who the identity of the man in question is, don't expect it to be a guarantee that only six men will fight for the right to claim the coveted briefcase.

A False Finish in the Main Event?

Right now, it's pretty difficult to call which way WWE will go with the main event of Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins.

On one hand, there is the need to keep pushing Reigns hard as the champion, whether fans like it or not. But Rollins is a genuine top star with a real case to claim back the WWE World Heavyweight Championship he never lost, so could there be a false finish in store?

Perhaps there could be a double pin or double count-out somewhere along the way. Maybe one of the two guys will be screwed over, but with what's ahead on the horizon for WWE, it makes plenty of sense.

Rollins and Reigns could lay claim to being the true champion the following night on Raw, and with the brand split just a few weeks away, it could be the catalyst for the return of the second world title.

Rollins could hold one and take it to SmackDown, with Reigns grabbing the other and staying on Raw.

False finishes normally don't make that much sense, but here it might just work.
