Former German Goalkeeper Tim Wiese Will Train at WWE's Performance Center

Mike ChiariJun 7, 2016

WWE announced Tuesday that former German goalkeeper Tim Wiese has agreed to terms to train at the company's Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

WWE made it official in an Instagram post, which included a photo of Wiese alongside WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative Triple H:

The 34-year-old Wiese played for Werder Bremen and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, and he also made six appearances for Germany's national team.

Following the announcement, Triple H commented on Wiese's arrival and the decision to give him a shot, per WWE.com: "Tim is tenacious. He continues to be very vocal in his desire to prove that he has what it takes, and he has shown tremendous resilience and determination to create an opportunity for himself. This is his break to walk his talk. If all goes well in Florida, he will get his chance in the ring."

Wiese also released a statement and made it clear he fully intends to be a WWE Superstar: "I have been training hard for this, and I am excited for the opportunity. No matter what it takes, my goal is to be in that WWE ring this November. I want that match!"

The 2010 FIFA World Cup German squad member got his first taste of WWE in 2014, appearing as a guest timekeeper at a WWE live event in Germany.

Wiese stood up to the team of Goldust and Stardust, which led to speculation that he would sign with the company.

Although it wasn't announced that Wiese signed an official contract, training at the Performance Center could put him on track to be part of WWE's NXT developmental brand in the near future.

In addition to signing top independent wrestlers, WWE has brought in many athletes from other sports without a wrestling background in the hopes of molding them into a future Superstar.

Wiese fits in with the latter group, and he'll be given every tool of the trade needed to succeed at WWE's state-of-the-art facility.
