WWE Money in the Bank 2016: Smart Builds and Predictions for PPV's Top Feuds

Aaron BowerJun 6, 2016

WWE's annual decision to choose a future world champion-in-waiting is on the horizon, and in 2016, the company appears to be blessed with more talent to pick from than ever before.

The winner at WWE Money in the Bank later this month in the show's marquee ladder match will be intriguing outcome, because there is a fair case for most of the men in the match to be given the coveted briefcase moving forward.

Elsewhere, there is also a series of appealing matches that hint at a well-rounded card, the makings of which should get WWE and its "new era" up and running.

Here's a selection of the show's biggest feuds, how to build them and who is likely to end up coming out on top with all the glory.

Rusev vs. Titus O'Neil

1 of 4

It appears WWE is going down the route of having the pro-American take on the dominant and fearsome Rusev in a battle surrounding patriotism at Money in the Bank.

Many thought John Cena would step into the role that Titus O'Neil is ultimately filling. So with O'Neil's inclusion on the card an undoubted surprise, how does WWE book this feud smartly?

Most importantly, with Titus having spent so much time away from TV due to his suspension earlier this year, fans need to see him in action and winning matches on a regular basis.

He needs momentum, and going through some of the company's lower midcarders will help give him a position of dominance going into the match with Rusev.

As for Rusev, WWE is right to have him routinely destroy people on a weekly basis. He's suffered from weak booking in the past, but watching him beat up different opponents in impressive fashion gives him the air of a champion.

Have O'Neil make the save now and then when Rusev threatens to take his actions too far. Have Rusev blindside Titus on the odd occasion, too. But it's crucial WWE writers keep them apart when it comes to having an actual match.

That should be reserved for Money in the Bank, when The Bulgarian Brute will emerge successful.

Prediction: Rusev

AJ Styles vs. John Cena

2 of 4

If one match sums up WWE's new era against the old-school Superstars, then it's AJ Styles vs. John Cena.

Styles' heel turn last week was a shrewd piece of booking, one that certainly caught people by surprise.

But from here on out, the attention needs to be on the dominance of The Club in this rivalry. Having Cena take them all down—like Roman Reigns did in the buildup to their recent matches—will destroy their momentum.

If anyone is going to be doing the attacking, let it be The Club. They should attack Cena backstage, interfere with his matches and make his life a misery.

It's time the writers take Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson seriously when it comes to their booking. Making them look dominant will make Styles' bout with Cena interesting and unmissable.

And when it comes to the match itself, hopefully the past mistakes of feeding Styles to Reigns will not be repeated. It's time for The Phenomenal One to strike up a major win.

Prediction: AJ Styles

Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins

3 of 4

The match that many have wanted for so long will take place at Money in the Bank—and the possibilities for change are endless.

Could we see a double turn? Could Rollins win at the first attempt and end Reigns' latest run with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship?

Those questions have yet to be answered, but what should happen between now and then is crucial for the success of the feud.

It's a rivalry that will likely run through to SummerSlam, so the cat-and-mouse element to the feud should continue for a while yet.

Have Reigns not be able to get his hands on Rollins and have Seth be kept out of the ring until Money in the Bank. He doesn't need a whole host of ring time; he just needs to look fairly untouchable in the process. What he can do is interfere in a Reigns main event on Raw, hit him with a Pedigree and retreat like the master assassin he became during his initial run with the title.

Unfortunately for Rollins' fans, he won't score the win this time, but that will come in the future.

Prediction: Roman Reigns

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

4 of 4

Raw's main event last week offered an insight into how this match should be booked and built up properly.

Having all six men take each other on seems right, as it gives fans a chance to relate to the whole field in the run towards Money in the Bank.

But within the countless matches we will see over the next few weeks, the subplots should focus on WWE's existing rivalries.

Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn should be featured, showcased and mentioned frequently, as it's a rivalry that could arguably sell the pay-per-view's marquee match all on its own.

Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho failed to sparkle on occasions, but their obvious chemistry can be played out to add more depth to the field.

And Cesaro and Alberto Del Rio? With their talent speaking for itself, they will certainly add their stamp on the build as the match approaches.

The winner? It's arguably the toughest Money in the Bank ladder match in history to call, but look for Dean Ambrose to set up a dream meeting between all three members of The Shield at SummerSlam.

Prediction: Dean Ambrose
