Recap

Taylor and Lewis strolled into the last eight of the World Cup on Saturday after the Chinese duo of Yuanjun Liu and Wenge Xie each surrendered 4-0 results to their opponents in the singles contest.

England's bastions were the only team-mates who both managed to rustle up unanswered scorelines on Saturday, although China weren't without their own contribution of impressive shots, per Sky Sports Darts:

Speaking to Betway before the tournament got underway, Taylor and Lewis shed some light on what they feel makes them such an effective pairing, and the Stoke-on-Trent duo were both on song in the second round:

Van Gerwen and Van Barneveld each lost the opening throws of their showdowns with Filipino opponents Gilbert Ulang and Alex Tagarao, respectively, but thumped back in major fashion to win 2-0.

The official PDC Darts Twitter account confirmed Mighty Mike hit a hurdle in the opening leg before finding his momentum to book an enticing quarter-final opposite Australia:

In the evening session's opener, Anderson and Thornton threw aside Norway's challenge to move ahead in the tournament, but not before the unknown Cor Dekker forced the former into a tough contest.

The Norwegian actually led 2-1 before drawing at 3-3, and it was only a superb 160 from Anderson in the decisive seventh leg that snatched victory from the jaws of defeat:

Thornton was far more incisive when demolishing Robert Wagner 4-1, surrendering the first leg before surging through with four on the bounce to seal a 2-0 win for Scotland.

Ronny Huybrechts did the same in the opening match of the day when Belgium took on Hungary, and sibling Kim spoke to the official PDC website after he and his bother booked a 2-0 triumph:

"

I'm happy with the performance because you don't know what to expect when you play a nation like Hungary where you don't know the players. It's difficult and it's a very short format but we're through and we're up for it. The World Cup has always been 'our' tournament, we love it and we'll see what happens on Sunday.

"

Both Australia and Canada advanced on Saturday after booking 2-1 victories over Denmark and Wales, respectively, with Whitlock and Part playing the roles of hero for their nations.

It's been eight years since the veteran Part won the most recent of his two PDC World Championship titles, and William Hill celebrated his victory after leading the charge over Mark Webster and Gerwyn Price in a doubles decider:

Whitlock also had to take the bull by the horns in a doubles showdown after Per Laursen managed to get the better of team-mate Karl Anderson, taking out 104 on tops to see the men from Down Under through.

Of the quarter-final fixtures, a clash between second seed Scotland and seventh seed Belgium looks like the pick of the bunch, and the contest will make a significant step up as the tournament edges nearer to its climax.
