WWE Money in the Bank 2016: Superstars Who Deserve Biggest Push Ahead of PPV

Brad JonesJun 3, 2016

Over the past few years, Money in the Bank has become established as one of the most important shows on the WWE calendar.

Of course, the all-important titular ladder match has a big influence over the world title picture in the months directly afterward. However, it's the show's placement between WrestleMania and SummerSlam that makes it a must-watch.

Being situated between two of WWE's Big 4 pay-per-views makes Money in the Bank something of a turning point for the year. Depending on how wrestlers are presented at Money in the Bank compared to their contributions to WrestleMania can tell us how they're likely to factor into SummerSlam.

These are the competitors who deserve to be given a push as Money in the Bank draws near—because now is the time to start building momentum for SummerSlam and beyond.

Seth Rollins

1 of 4

At Extreme Rules, Seth Rollins made his long-awaited return and immediately forced his way into the world title picture.

However, The Architect has no small task ahead of him as he attempts to dethrone the WWE world heavyweight champion, Roman Reigns.

Reigns seemingly got the better of Rollins on the latest edition of Raw, staring down his former stablemate and dodging a potential attack. Given the challenger's recent absence, he needs to look more dangerous if he's to be treated as a serious threat to the champion.

We're yet to see Rollins' official return to competition, but hopefully The Architect will be able to pick up a few convincing victories before Money in the Bank on June 19. Exciting matches with the right result will get Rollins to where he needs to be.

If Rollins isn't pushed ahead of the pay-per-view and can't get the job done on the night, all the anticipation leading up to his return will have gone to waste—and that can't happen.

Rusev

2 of 4

At Extreme Rules, Rusev seized the United States Championship from Kalisto, debuting a renewed vigour and an even more torturous twist on his Accolade submission hold.

The Bulgarian Brute has all the resources to be a terrific midcard champion. However, he'll need to be positioned as a dominant force if his reign is to fulfil its potential.

It seems Rusev will defend his championship against Titus O'Neil at Money in the Bank. That has the potential to be a great clash between two big men—but it will be even more effective if both men exhibit their capabilities in the weeks before the upcoming PPV.

Rather than having Rusev and O'Neil face off directly, have them demonstrate their size and strength against smaller opponents. Once the big men come together, we're sure to see a hard-hitting resolution.

Sasha Banks

3 of 4

When Sasha Banks failed to secure the WWE Women's Championship at WrestleMania, it seemed more than likely The Boss would have to wait until SummerSlam for her big victory.

However, in the months since, she's been all but anonymous on WWE programming. It makes sense to avoid overexposing her ahead of a big push—but at this point, it's time to see her rise up the ranks and seize the No. 1 contender spot.

Banks would benefit greatly from a feud to sink her teeth into. She already has a legion of fans behind her, but she'd surely become even more popular if she were to appear on Raw and SmackDown consistently.

The Boss has charisma to spare and always gives her utmost between the ropes, but she can't put either of those strengths to their best use when she's relegated to programming such as Main Event.

Banks could still take part in a compelling title program at SummerSlam, but it is time to start laying groundwork so that feud doesn't seem forced come August.

The Club

4 of 4

John Cena's big return on the Memorial Day edition of Raw was ruined by The Club, who beat down the 15-time world champion.

That is exactly the sort of statement the faction needed to make. After weeks of being cancelled out by The Bloodline, we're finally seeing The Club display some of the characteristics that made The Bullet Club an international success.

The Club should be capable of taking out a franchise player like John Cena. This is how you build a reputation for fans who aren't familiar with the group's past exploits—not having them cancelled out by The Usos, something we saw happen time and time again during AJ Styles' recent programme with Roman Reigns.

This is a make-or-break feud for the faction. With the proper presentation, they could be a crucial element of either Raw or SmackDown following the impending brand extension. Otherwise, The Club will just be three more names on the list of talent that's hit a brick wall in the form of John Cena.
