Jordan Spieth at Dean & DeLuca Invitational 2016: Friday Score and Reaction

Joe PantornoMay 27, 2016

Jordan Spieth continued his charge at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas, recording a four-under 66 during Friday's second round. At the time of his finish, he was in fourth place. He is currently tied for third.

Here is the current leaderboard for the tournament:

After going three under Thursday, Spieth started on the back nine and immediately dropped a stroke on No. 10 with a bogey as he missed a par putt from approximately eight feet out.

He recovered quickly with a birdie on No. 11 thanks to an approach shot from 86 yards out that landed two feet from the hole.

Two holes later, he birdied again thanks to a brilliant tee shot that landed just four feet, nine inches from the hole, via the PGA Tour:

He bogeyed No. 16, which was his final mark on the back nine, before catching fire on the turn to the front nine.

Spieth recorded birdies on Nos. 1, 2 and 4 to catapult up the leaderboard and tie for the lead.

He smacked a 318-yard drive on No. 1 to get to the par-five green for his third shot. On No. 2, he sank a 20-foot birdie putt, as the PGA Tour showed:

His birdie putt on No. 4 was manageable thanks to a first shot that landed eight feet from the hole, via the PGA Tour:

The hot streak extended to No. 5 after a 202-yard second shot landed within 15 feet of the pin. He sank the ensuing birdie putt to take the outright lead, via the PGA Tour:

Given Spieth's struggles over the past few months, which climaxed during the final round at the Masters, Jonathan Wall of the PGA Tour's official website was glad to see the Texas native's name atop the leaderboard again:

An uneventful finish during which he parred his final four holes ensured that he stayed at seven under, but Bryce Molder, Anirban Lahiri and Webb Simpson passed Spieth for the lead.

This was just a glimpse of the kind of dominant golfer Spieth can be. While this isn't the largest tournament, pulling out a win in his home state could do wonders for Spieth as he tries to get back to his perch as the world's top golfer.

Post-Round Reaction

Spieth spoke with the PGA Tour official website after his round as he broke down how he was able to turn things around from his slow start:

That comfortable feeling can only help in building some momentum as he is very much in the running for a title this weekend.

If he's able to piece together two more rounds like the one he had on Friday and there is little doubt that he'll get back in the win column.
