Scouting Bayern Munich Transfer Target Leroy Sane
With a new trainer in Carlo Ancelotti set to take the helm next season, Bayern Munich have already made a splash in the summer transfer market with the signings of Renato Sanches and Mats Hummels. Yet despite the Bavarians having already invested significantly in new signings, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed (via Sport Bild, h/t Goal) that the German double winners are not yet finished in the transfer market.
According to Sport Bild (h/t Talk Sport), the Bavarians are prepared to offer €49 million to sign Schalke starlet Leroy Sane. The sum would make the Germany international the most expensive purchase of any Bundesliga club, despite the player still being just 19 years of age. But Sane is a very talented player with a very bright future. And with Talk Sport citing interest from Manchester City and Liverpool, the Bavarians will surely have to fork out plenty of cash if they are to land the young attacker.

At this point, Bayern are in a transition period in their attack. Once the team of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, both players are well into their 30s by now and are seemingly more injury-prone in the last two seasons. Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski took the banner in the Bayern attack during the 2015-16 campaign, and despite Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman playing well, there isn't any certainty that they will be world-class options on the wing in the long term. So it's sensible for Bayern to be considering their options, with Talk Sport citing reports that the Bavarians would be willing to loan Sane back to Schalke to give the youngster time to develop in familiar surroundings.
One can easily see the wisdom in letting Sane spend another year in Gelsenkirchen. In the last year, he's made enormous strides. After stunning Real Madrid with a goal at the Bernabeu in March of 2015, he achieved consistency with nine goals and seven assists in all competitions in 2015-16. There was a period from the end of November until March in which he scored just once, but outside that spell, he was a regular performer for the Gelsenkirchen side.
The 2015-16 campaign brought out the best and the worst of Sane's game. During his lull of form, he made poor decisions with the ball at his feet. He's the type of player with a great engine who can drive the ball forward and create counter-attacking situations, but the choices he makes to pass, shoot or dribble in the final third often leave much to be desired. Yet that is something Schalke and any potential suitors can reasonably hope to change in the years to come.

In terms of talent, Sane brings plenty to the table. He's two-footed and offers explosive pace and fine dribbling skill. He has enormous confidence and with it, the audacity to take on defenders and shoot from distance when many of his teammates would stop and make a back-pass. What's more, Sane is a player who loves to take responsibility and relishes the big stage: In four games against Bayern and Borussia Dortmund during the 2015-16 season, he scored or assisted in three.
At the same time, Sane's personal drive is something that can frustrate his teammates. And it could cost him at Bayern, which have many players who are more efficient with their chances. For the time being, though, Schalke will take what they can get: His wastefulness aside, they absolutely benefited from having Sane in 2015-16.
In conclusion, Sane is a very raw player. He has bags of undeniable talent and the right mindset to succeed. But he will also need to refine his abilities to become more efficient and reliable if he is to make his mark at a bigger club like Bayern or Manchester City. If Bayern were to sign him and send him back to Schalke on loan, though, they might find a world-class star in their ranks in a year's time.
