Dean & DeLuca Invitational 2016: Thursday Leaderboard Scores and Highlights

Joe PantornoMay 26, 2016

Bryce Molder has the early lead at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational from Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, after shooting a six-under 64 during Thursday's first round.

Here is the tournament's leaderboard after the first day of play:

Molder was able to complete his round in the early afternoon after a weather delay extended his time on the course, which began at 7 a.m. local time. He managed to hold onto the lead throughout the day, though Anirban Lahiri, Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson are lurking just one stroke behind him.

Molder's start was nothing more than pedestrian, as he parred each of his first nine holes. But turning on to the front nine, he caught fire and birdied Nos. 1-2 and 6-9 to get to six under par.

His red-hot finish took him by surprise, as he told PGATour.com's Mike McAllister:

Shortly after his finish, the winds picked up once again. The scoring slowed down, as the blustery conditions proved difficult to navigate.

It didn't bother Kevin Chappell for at least one hole, as he provided one of the shots of the day despite those conditions on No. 10, via the PGA Tour:

He shot a two-under for the day and is tied for 18th.

World No. 2 golfer Jordan Spieth has been attempting to get his season and career back on track after a troubling start to 2016 that included that epic collapse on No. 12 at the Masters. He didn't make the cut at the Players Championship and finished tied for 18th at the Byron Nelson.

On Thursday, though, Spieth put together a solid showing by shooting a three-under that placed him in a tie for ninth.

His driving wasn't good, as his accuracy percentage was at just 42.86, well below the tour average of around 54 percent.

He did make up for it with a 77.78 greens in regulation percentage while gaining 1.203 strokes in the process. Both of those aspects were well above the tour average.

If golfers struggled with the wind Thursday, they'll be in for a bigger test Friday, as there is rain in the forecast once again. Per Weather.com, scattered thunderstorms with strong winds could force a lot of stops and restarts in play.

The golfer who can keep his form consistent in what could be an erratic day of play might create a nice cushion heading into the second half of the tournament.
