The Sharks are going to prove a tough matchup for the Penguins, who rely on skill players like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel.
Like they've done all season, the Sharks' physical play has simply worn their opponents out with checking form. Of the top 10 hitters in the postseason this year, San Jose has three players within those ranks.
The Sharks have shown that they can key in on top players and stifle them for a majority of their time on the ice. Most recently, it was the St. Louis Blues' Vladimir Tarasenko, who entered the Western Conference Final with seven goals and six assists in 14 previous postseason games.
For the first five games, San Jose held Tarasenko to zero points before he scored two goals in the third period of the deciding Game 6. But the game was already out of reach by then, and the series was wrapped up.
San Jose's next target is Pittsburgh, a team that has much more depth than the Blues or Nashville Predators.
The Sharks could try and key in on one of Pittsburgh's top players, but the thing about the Penguins attack is that it comes at you in waves. Eight different players have 10 or more points this postseason, while 16 of the 22 players who have dressed for the Penguins have scored.
That will make for an entertaining series as power meets finesse for Lord Stanley's cup.
