Titans Announce Dodd Injury
Thursday, May 26
Per the Titans' official Twitter account, head coach Mike Mularkey announced that Dodd had "preventative foot surgery" on Thursday with the expectation he will be back when training camp opens this summer.
According to John Glennon of the Tennessean, Dodd had injured his right foot. Per Terry McCormick of TitansInsider.com, Dodd's injury was discovered after he was experiencing soreness in his foot and an MRI was taken before the surgery was performed.
The Titans selected Dodd with their first pick of the second round, 33rd overall. He had a breakout 2015 season with Clemson, recording 24 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks after not having any sacks in his first three seasons as a Tiger.
Dodd's performance in the College Football Playoff Championship Game against Alabama, in particular, launched him into the stratosphere. He recorded five tackles for loss and three sacks in defeat, prompting him to declare for the NFL draft.
In the midst of his breakout season, Dodd did battle foot injuries. He was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis last year after a game against Miami in October, though he did not miss a game because of the injury.
Fortunately for Dodd and the Titans, it sounds like the injury was caught before it eventually grew into a bigger problem.
The Titans are scheduled to open training camp on July 31, which gives the 23-year-old Dodd more than two months of recovery time. Their first preseason game is against San Diego on August 13.
