NCAA Women's Golf Championships 2016: Tuesday Results and Leaderboard Standings
The finalists are set for the 2016 NCAA Women's Golf Championships after two rounds of match play whittled down the field from eight schools to two on Tuesday.
The defending national champion Stanford Cardinal will meet the Washington Huskies in Wednesday's final round of golf from Eugene, Oregon.
While the tournament started with 24 schools playing 54 holes of stroke play, the remaining schools in the quarterfinals and semifinals participated in match play.
Two golfers from each school match up and earn a point for every hole they win, and the player who wins each of the five matchups between the two schools earns a point for her team. For the full leaderboard, click here.
Here are the results from the morning quarterfinal session:
| No. 2 Stanford | 3-2 | No. 7 South Carolina |
| No. 6 Duke | 4-1 | No. 3 USC |
| No. 1 UCLA | 4-0-1 | No. 8 Oregon |
| No. 4 Washington | 3-1-1 | No. 5 Virginia |
Stanford managed to get by South Carolina thanks to the heroics of Mariah Stackhouse and Lauren Kim, who won the last two individual matches with the Cardinal trailing 2-1.
Stackhouse, who defeated South Carolina's Marion Veysseyre 2 up, was down for eight of nine holes on the front nine before taking the lead on hole No. 12 and keeping it thanks to huge shots like these, via Golf Channel:
Top-seeded UCLA made easy work of Oregon, who was playing in its backyard in Euguene. Despite the home-field advantage, the Ducks could only muster a half-point as one match finished all square.
Duke provided the first big upset of the day as the No. 6 seed took down No. 3 USC in decisive 4-1 fashion.
The Blue Devils were led by Virginia Elena Carta, who won the individual national championship on Tuesday when she completed four rounds with a score of 16 under—eight strokes better than second-place Dewi Weber from Miami and Haley Moore from Arizona.
Here are the semifinal results:
| No. 2 Stanford | 3-2 | No. 6 Duke |
| No. 4 Washington | 3-1-1 | No. 1 UCLA |
Stackhouse managed to win her matchup in the semifinals against Duke's Gurbani Singh 3 and 2. Kim, on the other hand, didn't find as much success, as she fell to Sandy Choi 1 up.
Luckily for the Cardinal, Casey Danielson and Sierra Kersten pulled out wins to give Stanford a 3-2 win and a second straight trip to the finals.
It was a bit more comfortable for Washington, who in upset fashion took down No. 1-seeded UCLA 3-1-1.
The first three Washington golfers, Julianne Alvarez, Sarah Rhee and Wenyung Keh, recorded wins to all but clinch the Huskies' place in the championship before a draw in the fourth match.
Stanford will look to become the first school since Duke from 2005-2007 to win consecutive championships. Washington, on the other hand, will be looking for its first-ever title.
