Brannen Greene, 2016 NBA Draft Prospect, Escapes Burning Car After Accident
The father of former Kansas Jayhawks basketball player Brannen Greene confirmed the NBA prospect was involved in a car accident Friday night, per Gary Bedore of KUSports.com.
The car caught fire following the crash, but Green sustained only minor injuries after escaping through one of the windows.
Jeffrey Greene said the vehicle exploded seconds after his son got out:
"Everything in the car — his phone, his computer, his luggage was burned and destroyed. The police said Brannen should not have survived. He walked away from it with a terrible headache, all-over body aches but for the most part he's just dealing with mental trauma. To think he survived this … he said when the car got hit he felt like he was asleep, dreaming. He said, 'I could see all this fire and I was getting hot.' He said, 'I've got to get out. I couldn't get out. I couldn't find my seatbelt and the wraps. I got scared. I finally hit it and the seat belt came loose. I jumped out the window and started running. Five seconds later it sounded like a bomb (with car engulfed in flames).'
He got up and walked to the Sprint store today because he had no way of reaching anybody. He has no broken bones. He's extremely lucky.
"
KUSports.com posted a photo of the damaged car:
Brannen sent out a tweet about the wreck Sunday evening:
Greene's father added Brannen will continue with the seven workouts he has planned with NBA teams, including a few this coming week, per the Kansas City Star's Jesse Newell: "They're still scheduled. He's like, 'I'm fine. Where's a gym? Where's a basketball?' That's his mentality, and it has to be mine."
ESPN.com's Chad Ford ranked Greene 100th on his most recent big board, and CBSSports.com's Sam Vecenie listed him as the 129th-best player overall in the 2016 draft class.
