Wilshere to Receive New Deal After Euro 2016

According to MailOnline's Sami Mokbel, the Gunners are "preparing to open contract talks" following the UEFA European Championship in France this summer, during which Wilshere could feature after making Roy Hodgson's preliminary 26-man England squad despite making just three appearances this season.
Wilshere will soon enter the final two years of his deal at the club—a situation they are likely eager to avoid with their top stars—and Arsenal are hoping to secure the 24-year-old's long-term future at the Emirates Stadium.
The deal could also ward off Manchester City. Mokbel reported the Citizens "have a long-term interest in Wilshere, which dates back to last summer."
However, the contract extension will seemingly only be offered "provided Wilshere comes through the tournament unscathed."
Given the Englishman's injury record, that will be easier said than done—he missed virtually all of this campaign and the entirety of the 2011-12 season. In his six seasons as an established first-team regular at Arsenal, he has made just 103 league appearances.
Injuries have made the midfielder unreliable, but when fit and on form, he's an excellent player—hence his inclusion in Hodgson's plans—so the Gunners' desire to tie him down is understandable.
Caution would be prudent, though. At his age, Wilshere still has plenty of time to recover his career from the blight of so many injuries, but if he's unable to shake them off before long, it could reach the point where he can no longer justify his presence in the squad.
