IPL Results 2016: Scores, Table, Fixtures After Royal Challengers vs. Kings XI
Royal Challengers Bangalore thrashed Kings XI Punjab by 82 runs via the Duckworth–Lewis method in a rain-affected game on Wednesday to move into the top four of the 2016 Indian Premier League with just a game remaining.
Virat Kohli scored his fourth century of the season as he hit 113 from 50 balls to propel RCB to a total of 211 from 15 overs after the game was shortened because of rain.
Kings XI could do little in the chase as they lost wickets consistently, and they inevitably fell to a ninth defeat of the season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Kings XI Punjab
Bangalore, 211 for three (Kohli 113, Gayle 73), beat Kings XI, 120 for nine (14 overs, Saha 24, Chahal 4 for 25), by 82 runs via D/L.
The Bangalore crowd had to wait some time before the match got underway after heavy rain caused the start to be delayed and the game reduced to 15 overs per side, per Sky Sports Cricket:
However, they were rewarded for their patience as Kohli and Chris Gayle made a flying start after RCB were put into bat by Kings XI.
Gayle hit Kyle Abbot for two sixes and a four in the fourth over before Axar Patel missed a run-out opportunity that would have seen Kohli dismissed for just 10.
The fifth over was another costly affair for Kings XI as KC Cariappa went for another two maximums and the runs never stopped flowing.
Initially it was the inimitable Gayle causing the havoc as RCB hit 63 from the first six overs, but Kohli then joined in on the act as the ball went to all parts of the ground, per cricket writer Kritika Naidu:
The pair both passed the 50-mark and looked as though they could bat through the innings before Gayle got over-eager and holed out to David Miller at long-off for a 32-ball 73, an innings that included eight sixes.
However, there was no stopping Kohli, despite a hand injury, and the skipper reached his fourth century of IPL 9 in the 14th over as he flicked another boundary on the leg side, per Cricbuzz:
Another six and a four followed before he was finally caught by Miller as he mistimed a slightly slower delivery from Sandeep Sharma.
AB de Villiers had dragged on for a second-ball duck, but KL Rahul provided an entertaining late cameo, hitting 16 from six to see RCB to a massive total of 211.
The game was effectively done and dusted from there, but Kings XI skipper Murali Vijay showed excellent intent as he hit two fours from the first two balls of the innings.

He then flicked Sreenath Aravind for six in the second over but fell just two balls later as he played on after trying to give himself some room.
Wriddhiman Saha hit five fours in a 10-ball 24 but was then trapped lbw by Yuzvendra Chahal, although there was a suspicion of a no ball.
Amla then scooped a catch to a diving Chris Jordan at mid-off, and Miller fell for just three to leave the Punjab outfit struggling on 54 for four in the sixth over.
The wickets kept on falling, De Villiers' boundary catch to dismiss Abbot particularly impressive as he threw it up to himself to avoid stepping over the rope as he claimed it, per cricket presenter Gaurav Kapur:
With just one over to go and Kings XI on 120 for nine, the rain came down again, and RCB were eventually awarded the victory via the Duckworth–Lewis method.
It was a thoroughly convincing win from an ever-improving Bangalore side, and they are now guaranteed a play-off place if they beat Delhi Daredevils in their final league match on Sunday.
