Black-Eyed Susan Stakes 2016: Post Positions, Field and Race Preview
Kentucky Oaks runner-up Land Over Sea headlines a field of 14 set for Friday's running of the 2016 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. As usual, the annual showcase for three-year-old fillies takes place the day before the Preakness Stakes.
Land Over Sea is joined by a deep field of contenders that also features Go Maggie Go, She's a Warrior and Kinsley Kisses. Cathryn Sophia, the Kentucky Oaks winner, won't take part in the event and is instead aiming for the Acorn Stakes next month.
Let's check out all of the important details for the 92nd edition of the marquee race. That's followed by a look at the complete field and a preview of the action.

Race Preview
Trainer Doug O'Neill and jockey Mario Gutierrez are hoping for a memorable weekend. They are teaming up with the favorites in both the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes with Land Over Sea and the Preakness Stakes with Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist.
So far in her career, Land Over Sea has been a good horse caught behind some great horses. She's finished in the money eight times in nine starts, but owns just two victories. She came up short against Songbird five times and didn't have enough finishing speed against Cathryn Sophia two weeks ago.
A similar performance this week might be good enough to win, though. It's a deep field, but it lacks the star power from most of her previous starts. Furthermore, David Grening of Daily Racing Form noted her trainer came away from Churchill Downs pleased with where she stood.
"She came out of the Kentucky Oaks really well," O'Neill said. "The challenge with her has always been to keep the weight on, but her appetite has been great since the Oaks."
Go Maggie Go finished fourth in the Oaks, but ran much better than that result would suggest. She endured a frustrating trip and lacked the experience necessary to overcome the crowded field. Friday's race will mark just her fourth career start.
She showcased her potential with victories in her first two outings. That included an impressive effort in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks in April. If she can enjoy a better start at Pimlico than she did a few weeks ago and get into a comfort zone quicker, she'll be firmly in the mix at the end.
Mike Watchmaker of Daily Racing Form is bullish on her after the Oaks effort:
Elsewhere in the field, She's A Warrior is a highly interesting case. She still hasn't managed to break her maiden in five career starts despite finishing in the money every time. That includes a third-place finish to Songbird and Land Over Sea in the Las Virgenes Stakes.
While being unable to win any of her previous starts typically makes it difficult to win on the big stage, this year's Black-Eyed Susan Stakes is different. There are a lot more questions than answers in this field, which leaves the door open for a horse like She's A Warrior.
The same could be said for Kinsley Kisses. She has a win on her resume from a maiden special weight race in January, but finished third in the Grade 3 Beaumont Stakes last month. And those are her only two career starts.
The lack of experience would usually be the disqualifying trait in her case. But once again, things are more wide-open with a favorite who's far from a lock.
Ultimately, the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes could very well end up being far more competitive and entertaining than the Preakness Stakes. Whereas Nyquist is a heavy favorite to move one step closer to horse racing's second straight Triple Crown, Friday's result is nowhere near as certain.
Land Over Sea has consistently proved to be beatable when an opponent runs a terrific race. Don't be surprised if that's exactly what Go Maggie Go does this time around.
