Power Ranking Every Barcelona Player from the 2015/16 La Liga Season
On Sunday, thousands lined the streets for what has become the annual Barcelona victory parade, with the only question being just which trophy the Catalan club will be showing off to their delirious supporters.
With the Copa del Rey final to come, this year it was the Primera Liga trophy that Luis Enrique and his squad were able to give their fans a glimpse of for the sixth time in the last eight years, but who among that squad were the best performers?
Taking into account everyone who played at least one minute of the successful La Liga campaign, per FCBarcelona.com, let's get power ranking.
This ranking is based on La Liga appearances only.
25. Douglas
1 of 25
Having long since cemented his place as one of the stranger signings in recent Barcelona history, Brazilian full-back Douglas was restricted to just 12 minutes of La Liga action in 2015/16, all of which came as a substitute in a 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano last October.
None of those five goals came when the 25-year-old was on the pitch, by the way, but one of Rayo's did.
24. Sergi Samper
2 of 25
It was somewhat of a breakthrough season for the 21-year-old midfielder Sergi Samper, who managed six appearances across the UEFA Champions League, Copa del Rey and FIFA Club World Cup, generally impressing everyone who saw him.
However, we're only dealing with league action here, and he was to play just once in that in 2015/16, coming on as a 61st-minute substitute for Andres Iniesta in the 6-0 win over Getafe in March.
23. Gerard Gumbau
3 of 25
A tall, rangy defensive midfielder with an excellent reading of the game, it is not hard to see why Gerard Gumbau has been compared to Sergio Busquets, who he replaced for two of his three substitute appearances in La Liga in 2015/16.
All came at the Camp Nou and all came in victories, and added to his five appearances across other competitions they made for a pretty satisfactory campaign for him.
22. Sandro Ramirez
4 of 25
Barcelona has to be the most difficult club in the world in which to make your name as a forward, but following the summer departure of the "MSN's" faithful backup Pedro, there was a vacancy for one of the club's youth products to fill.
And while Sandro Ramirez played 20 times across all competitions in 2015/16, in his 10 league appearances he failed to find the net.
He didn't play a minute in La Liga beyond December, and the 20-year-old might find that a loan move is better for his development next season.
21. Adriano
5 of 25
A faithful servant to the club for six seasons, Adriano played just eight times in La Liga in 2015/16 across four starts and four substitute appearances.
Barca won all of those matches, but at 31 years old and with his contract coming to an end next year, it might be time for the 17-cap Brazil international to think about winding down his career somewhere else.
20. Rafinha
6 of 25
Rafinha started his season with a goal in the UEFA Super Cup win over Sevilla, and he ended it with another one in a 5-0 win over Espanyol, playing six times in La Liga in the process.
Injuries meant that the attacking full-back missed seven months of the campaign, but he returned to play his part in two of the crucial five games at the end of the season which secured Barca their title success.
19. Aleix Vidal
7 of 25
It has been a difficult transition into Barcelona life for Aleix Vidal, who had to wait until Barca's transfer ban was lifted before taking his place in the squad, and when he did, he never seemed to be quite in tune with his surroundings.
He made nine La Liga appearances, all in victories, but the 26-year-old will know that he'll need to step up his game if he is to be a key player at the club next season.
18. Thomas Vermaelen
8 of 25
Making 22 appearances across all competitions this season is a cause for celebration for Thomas Vermaelen given his injury issues, and he kicked off his campaign with the winner in August's 1-0 victory over Malaga at the Camp Nou.
The Belgian made six starts and four substitute appearances in La Liga, with the most recent coming in March's 6-0 hammering of Getafe.
17. Marc-Andre ter Stegen
9 of 25
Barcelona's "Copa Keeper" was required for La Liga action at both the start and end of the season due to injuries to Claudio Bravo, and he'll have much fonder memories of the latter period.
A 4-1 loss at Celta Vigo in September contributed to a difficult start for the German, but by the end of the campaign, he was able to keep back-to-back clean sheets as Barca swatted aside both Espanyol and Granada to secure title glory.
16. Marc Bartra
10 of 25
Ever the faithful understudy, defender Marc Bartra stepped into the breach 13 times in La Liga in 2015/16, even managing to register goals in September's 4-1 win over Levante and April's 8-0 success at Deportivo La Coruna.
A gifted defender who would surely play more often at virtually any other club, it remains to be seen when Bartra thinks that the time is right to move on from the Camp Nou, where he remains under contract for one more year.
15. Arda Turan
11 of 25
For whatever reason, things just haven't worked out for Arda Turan during his first season at Barcelona, or first half season if you consider the transfer ban.
Unable to get up to speed with the way Barca play or to get in-sync with his team-mates, he finds himself down the midfield pecking order at the Camp Nou, making nine starts in La Liga and registering goals against Rayo Vallecano and Getafe.
14. Jeremy Mathieu
12 of 25
He might still look somewhat out of place among the superstars, but 32-year-old French defender Jeremy Mathieu continues to prove a fairly useful cog in Barcelona machine, and a player who is capable of stepping up to the plate whenever required.
He played 21 times in La Liga in 2015/16, including in the final two matches of the season in which the title was wrapped up, when he was able to return from knee injury to show that Luis Enrique continues to rely on him.
13. Munir El Haddadi
13 of 25
As discussed in the Sandro Ramirez slide earlier, it can be difficult for a young forward to make the grade at Barcelona when he has such stellar competition, but Munir El Haddadi has complemented the rest of the side better than his team-mate when he has been called upon.
The 20-year-old made eight starts and seven substitute appearances as he often deputised for Luis Suarez or Lionel Messi, and he grabbed three goals in his final four league appearances of the season, including a crucial early strike in a win at Malaga in January.
12. Claudio Bravo
14 of 25
Unable to claim the Zamora Trophy for La Liga's best goalkeeper for a second season in succession, Claudio Bravo's league campaign started and ended with unfortunate injuries which ruled him out of action.
Still firmly established as the club's La Liga No. 1 though, the Chilean played in 32 of the 38 Primera Division matches, keeping a clean sheet in exactly half of them.
11. Sergi Roberto
15 of 25
With a first Spain cap earned in March, this really was a breakthrough season in the career of Sergi Roberto, who has come to be seen as one of the players that Luis Enrique knows he can trust to perform in a variety of positions.
He made 21 starts and 10 substitute appearances on the way to earning his La Liga medal, with the Catalonia-born youngster being taken into the hearts of supporters that he used to sit among in the stands.
10. Dani Alves
16 of 25
The fine assist that he provided for Luis Suarez's second goal of his hat-trick at Granada at the weekend was Dani Alves' fourth of the Primera Liga season (via WhoScored.com), and once again demonstrated his importance to the Barca cause.
Raiding forward from right-back in a manner which often makes him seem like a winger, Alves is still one of the best in the world at doing what he does, even if he did struggle with injury in 2015/16.
9. Jordi Alba
17 of 25
Like Alves, Jordi Alba was able to register an assist for Suarez in the Granada game as he took his tally to six for the Liga season.
So often a picture of perpetual motion up and down the left side of the Barca team, Alba is a player who often just quietly goes about his business, and someone who you sometimes don't notice until he isn't there. He played 31 times in the 2015/16 La Liga season.
8. Javier Mascherano
18 of 25
Now long settled into his position as a centre-back, the move seems to have improved Javier Mascherano's positioning skills, his reading of the game and his leadership, and he is now seen as a totemic part of Luis Enrique's plans.
So often it appears as though the Argentinian is set to get outmuscled by a bigger, supposedly stronger opponent, only for him to make a remarkable recovery and keep possession for his side.
He played in 32 of the 38 La Liga games this season, impressing in most of them.
7. Sergio Busquets
19 of 25
Such is his continued excellence, it can be easy to take Sergio Busquets for granted, with the Spain international so often gliding through games as though unencumbered by what is going on around him.
He plays at his own pace, and he was crucial to the Liga title effort, making 34 starts across the campaign. Only Luis Suarez made more in the Barca squad.
6. Gerard Pique
20 of 25
He's never going to be the most refined of defenders, and he was booked 12 times in his 30 La Liga games in 2015/16, but Gerard Pique will always have a place in the hearts of Barca fans because of what he represents.
A fantastic defender who uses the ball so well, Pique remains integral to the success of the club, and he is likely to go on being a key figure for years to come.
5. Andres Iniesta
21 of 25
The first season without Xavi by his side in his professional career was always going to be an interesting one for Andres Iniesta, but the club captain responded with a sparkling campaign which saw him feature in 28 of the 38 Liga matches.
Still darting around the pitch and still proving to be the difference-maker in the key moments, Iniesta was again superb throughout the campaign, and he looks like he can go on impressing for some time yet.
4. Ivan Rakitic
22 of 25
Outside of the famed front three (whom you'll be reading about in just a moment), Ivan Rakitic scored the most goals for Barcelona in 2015/16, with seven of those strikes coming in La Liga.
With 36, he also made the most league appearances of any Barca player over the season, with the Croatian's consistency and his ability to link up with the players ahead of him proving key as he ousted the challenge of Arda Turan to stay in Luis Enrique's preferred XI.
3. Neymar
23 of 25
In league games only, Neymar outdid himself in 2015/16, scoring 24 goals compared to last season's tally of 22.
The Brazilian was so often at his astonishing best over 34 appearances, bamboozling defenders with a flick or a trick and getting his side on the front foot.
In pretty much any other side in world football he would regarded as the key player, but he just happens to have two remarkable team-mates.
2. Lionel Messi
24 of 25
You can't keep Lionel Messi down for long, and not even an injury which forced him to miss around eight weeks of action between September and November could stop him from making 33 La Liga appearances in 2015/16, scoring 26 goals and assisting 16 others.
The Argentinian's role in the Barca side might be adapting as he gets older and the team-mates around him change, and while we may no longer see the stellar goalscoring records that he used to set in seasons past, it will still be a joy to behold him.
1. Luis Suarez
25 of 25
It takes a special player to beat Lionel Messi to the No. 1 spot in anything though, and in 2015/16 Luis Suarez was that player.
In a remarkable record of 59 goals in 52 games in all competitions (with one game to go), Suarez chipped in with 40 strikes in La Liga to claim the coveted Pichichi award for top goalscorer, becoming the first man to break the Lionel Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo hold on that award since Diego Forlan in 2009.
Add another 16 assists to that and you've got a stunning campaign, and one which has rightly established Suarez as the best out-and-out forward in world football right now.
