Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Have Stand Named After Him at PSG's Parc Des Princes
Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi has revealed he plans to name a stand after departing striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the club's Parc des Princes stadium.
Speaking to Swedish source SVT (h/t Get French Football News), Al Khelaifi made his intention to honour Ibrahimovic clear: "We tried to do everything for him, because he deserves it. One thing that I forget to say during my speech was that we are going to name a stand in his name.”
The plan is a worthy tribute for a player set to leave PSG this summer, per BBC Sport, after four seasons of sterling service, including winning a quartet of Ligue 1 titles.
He enjoyed a record-breaking sendoff in a 4-0 league win over Nantes on Saturday, according to MailOnline's Alex Bywater: "Playing his last game at the Parc des Princes, veteran striker Ibrahimovic moved to 38 league goals for the season, taking him one ahead of Carlos Bianchi who managed 37 in the 1977-78 campaign."
Ibrahimovic has been the one consistent star force since Al Khelaifi acquired the club. The owner's riches have attracted a host of stars to the French capital, including Edinson Cavani, Thiago Silva and Angel di Maria, but 34-year-old Ibrahimovic has remained the leading light.
Now the club's talisman is being heavily linked with a free-transfer switch to Premier League side Manchester United. Jason Burt of the Daily Telegraph recently named the Red Devils as "clear favourites" to sign the prolific Swede, while Ibrahimovic told beIN Sports (h/t Metro's George Bellshaw) he already knows where he'll play his football next season.
But the only current certainty is that Ibrahimovic won't be playing with PSG. Yet, his efforts lifting the profile of the club and ensuring domestic dominance deserve a tribute.
The club has come up with the perfect gesture for one of its true greats.
