Virat Kohli hit 109 runs off 55 balls as Bangalore claimed their fifth win of the IPL season, downing Gujarat by a convincing 144 runs. Kohli's fine efforts improved his standing on the list of scorers, but the team's achievements on Saturday were also inspired by AB de Villiers' fine efforts as the South African struck an astonishing—and unbeaten—129 runs off just 52 balls in Bengaluru.
Their incredible fear is unprecedented in IPL history, with no two players having ever achieved centuries each in the same T20 innings. Their 229 total is also the highest-recorded partnership in the history of T20 cricket, per ESPN Cricinfo.
Mumbai Indians batsman and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler had high praise for the pair, comparing them to two of football's all-time greats:
Meanwhile, cricket commentator Ayez Memon was especially impressed with the Indian star's display and conditioning:
Chris Gayle again left the crease early on—this time being caught in the third over after just six runs and 13 balls.
However, the West Indian's premature exit did not halt the devastating duo from powering their side to victory, combining for a total of 229 of Bangalore's 248 run total.
Former India fast bowler Yuvraj Singh could hardly believe what he was watching as the pair smashed records on their way to victory:
Shane Watson faced just the one final ball at the end of the contest following Kohli's attempted slog sweep, but the Australian was caught behind at the first attempt.
In the day's earlier game, Mumbai bowler McClenaghan took two wickets in three overs with the ball in hand to further enhance his position as the competition's top-performing bowler.
The New Zealand international is now two-wickets clear of Kolkata Knight Riders' Andre Russell, having played one extra match.

With the bat in hand, MI floundered and made just 124 runs as Kieron Pollard top-scored with 27. His closest challenger was Nitish Rana on a disappointing 25.
Kings Punjab XI beat Mumbai by seven wickets, making qualification look increasingly unlikely. The Indians sit seventh in the standings, having taken just eight points from their 12 matches, while KPXI have given themselves a chance of progression with a helpful two additional points.
Wriddhiman Saha made 56 runs as Murali Vijay contributed with 54 of his own to help as Gurkeerat Mann Singh finished their innings nicely with a four with three overs to spare.
