Dowell Loggains Comments on Jay Cutler, Bears Offense and More

Brian MarronMay 13, 2016

The departure of former offensive coordinator Adam Gase will not adversely affect Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler this upcoming season, according to new OC Dowell Loggains.

Loggains, who was Chicago's quarterbacks coach last season, believes his relationship and history with Cutler will allow the Bears offense to not miss a beat now that Gase is the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

"Well, the shell of the offense will stay the same," Loggains said, per ESPN.com's Jeff Dickerson. "It's been the same since coach John Fox has been a head coach. The language and everything will be the same, but it will evolve like it would have if Adam would have been here."

Cutler is coming off a season in which he posted a career-high 92.3 passer rating to go with 21 touchdowns and 11 picks. Chicago limped to a 6-10 record in 2015 while finishing 21st in the NFL in total offense.

Some continuity within the offense should be a breath of fresh air for Cutler. The 33-year-old has experienced five scheme changes in his time with the Bears, according to Dickerson.

CBSChicago.com's Chris Emma noted that Loggains is aware that the offense still needs improvement to get the Bears back into playoff contention:

Cutler looks to be in line for another solid season. He should be more comfortable running a similar offense and gets 2015 first-round pick Kevin White back to work alongside Alshon Jeffery. White did not play in his rookie season due to a shin injury.

Running back Jeremy Langford should be able to replace much of the production of Matt Forte, who is now with the New York Jets. Langford contributed 537 rushing yards and six touchdowns to go along with 22 catches for 279 yards and a score as a rookie in 2015.

The Bears still have holes along the offensive line, and playing in a division with Green Bay Packers and the upstart Minnesota Vikings is not a desirable task.

Cutler should be able to replicate his 2015 performance, but Chicago could be looking at another losing season.
