Liverpool Transfer News: Kevin Volland Linked, Latest Reds Rumours

Matt JonesMay 13, 2016

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly set to move to sign Hoffenheim forward Kevin Volland for a bargain £14.1 million fee.

That's according to SportBild (h/t Alex Harris of the Daily Star), who reported that while Wolfsburg and newly promoted RB Leipzig are also in the hunt, the Reds boss is a big fan of the forward. Volland is said to have a release clause in his contract that would see him depart for the aforementioned sum.

The Hoffenheim man has been a bright spot in a disappointing season for the club, who have flirted with the relegation zone for spells. Here is a look at some of his best moments from 2015-16:

For the kind of price mentioned, it would be no surprise if there was genuine interest from Liverpool in the player, as he ticks a lot of the boxes that Klopp looks for.

A £14.1 million fee would get Liverpool a forward who is very adaptable in his role on the field. Volland is at his most comfortable through the middle of the pitch and has taken on more responsibility this term following the sale of Roberto Firmino to the Reds. However, he’s also performed well in wide areas too, whether left or right.

As OptaFranz noted recently, he’s been the team’s most effective player in the final third in terms of goals and assists:

The 23-year-old is also a hungry player. Volland runs the channels, can hold the ball up well and is more than happy to engage in physical battles. He’s also someone who aids in enhancing the talents of footballers around him, something Firmino was the beneficiary of during their time together at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.

Firmino and Volland have linked up brilliantly in the past.

With Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke and Danny Ings on Liverpool's books already, the point of the attack isn’t an area of the squad that is in desperate need of addressing by Klopp. But the merits of an improving, industrious player like Volland would be obvious, and it’d be a shock if the German wasn’t interested for the price stated.

Jordan Rossiter to Finalise Rangers Deal

Liverpool youngster Jordan Rossiter is reportedly poised to travel to Rangers to complete his move to the Scottish giants.

According to Phil Costa of the MailOnline, the 19-year-old, who was tipped by many to emulate iconic Reds skipper Steven Gerrard, will sign a four-year deal with Rangers despite interest from Udinese, Manchester City and Fiorentina. Costa added that the Reds will receive a meagre £250,000 for the midfielder.

After honing his skills in the Liverpool academy as a local lad, it’ll certainly be a wretch to Rossiter to be leaving the club at such an early stage in his career. But it’s noted he will get regular first-team football at Ibrox having failed to break into Klopp’s XI.

Andy Kelly of the Liverpool Echo will be sad to see him go:

The youngster will be getting to a point where he wants to be playing regular senior football. At Anfield there are a lot of excellent central midfield options available to Klopp, with Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, James Milner, Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen ahead of Rossiter in the pecking order.

Playing for a club like Rangers will give the player some priceless experience and will allow him to refine his skills as a footballer in a testing division. With huge expectation on the club from 51,000 Glaswegians who pack out this iconic venue, Rossiter will improve as a player; Reds fans, who had such high hopes for the scouser, will watch on with intrigue.
