WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from May 12

Erik BeastonMay 13, 2016

For the first time since their debuts shortly after WrestleMania, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson were portrayed as the dangerous and violent tandem they should be, and in the process earned themselves "biggest winner" status from the May 12 episode of SmackDown.

The team battled The Usos in a match fans have seen far too often of late, both in traditional tag and six-man versions, but this one was different. There was no decisive outcome, but there was also no doubt in the minds of the audience as to who the superior team was, especially after Gallows and Anderson left Jimmy and Jey lying, the victims of steel chair assaults.

After looking like idiots who had not quite figured out that their friend AJ Styles wanted nothing to do with their attacks on Roman Reigns, they broke out of that mold and re-established themselves as a dangerous entity.

That is key going forward. Gallows and Anderson must be allowed to establish themselves or they'll fall into the same trap The Usos find themselves in: undefined lackeys built up to be beaten down. Thursday night's broadcast was a step in the right direction. How it will be followed up is now the question.

A series of strong victories, or even beatdowns similar to the one from SmackDown, will instantly elevate the team's stock.

Who else joined Anderson and Gallows as winners from the May 12 episode? Who was not quite as lucky?

Let's take a look.

Winner: Becky Lynch

The Lass Kicker lost to Dana Brooke Thursday night, but she turned in one of her finest main roster performances to date. Fiery and explosive, she unleashed flying shoulder tackles and back kicks, all the while selling Dana's vanilla attacks and putting her over strong in her first SmackDown match.

Lynch is a lovable babyface who is now showing the fire and intensity between the ropes that had been missing from her earlier performances. Once she puts the entire package together and WWE Creative brings an end to the monotonous Natalya-Charlotte program over the WWE Women's Championship, she should find her way back into title contention.

If that is not the case, there are far worse ways to continue building her into a popular babyface than through a feud with Emma and Dana, formerly NXT's resident mean girls.

Loser: Tyler Breeze

The continued inclusion of Prince Pretty in the tiresome, boring, ridiculously long storyline involving Goldust and R-Truth remains one of the most disappointing elements of an otherwise entertaining WWE product.

Breeze is one of the more underrated workers in the industry. His work in NXT speaks for itself. Unfortunately, his lack of size and the likelihood that Vince McMahon does not get his character have doomed him to obscurity.

While the tease of a tag team with Fandango at least gives Breeze something to do, it does not erase the fact that he has earned so much more than what his current spot on the roster affords him.

Winners: Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose

On Monday night's Raw, Jericho and Ambrose were the biggest losers of the night, their feud based on the destruction of a leather jacket and a plant. Thursday, WWE Creative set out to make the appropriate changes, scripting a more serious Y2J than it had in months.

Jericho attacked Ambrose, beating him down and strapping him into a straitjacket. From there, he pummeled the handicapped Lunatic Fringe, leaving him lying amid a chorus of boos from the fans.

The veteran competitor has come across as stale on more than one occasion during this program. Worse yet, he has looked like a fish out of water, an all-time great who no longer fits into the new era of WWE. But on Thursday night, he reminded fans and management alike that he can be as ruthless and volatile as anyone, giving a small taste of what an older Jericho has been capable of this whole time.

With just over one week until Extreme Rules, Jericho should maintain that element of danger to ensure a much more heated match than their Payback battle.
