Analyzing the New Day's Best Booking Options After WWE Extreme Rules 2016

Erik BeastonMay 13, 2016

There are few acts in WWE that have captivated the audience the way tag team champions The New Day have over the last six months. The group's dominance in the division and its unrivaled entertainment value have left few credible contenders to its throne.

At Extreme Rules, the entertaining championship trio will defend against newcomers The Vaudevillains. While Aiden English and Simon Gotch have rebounded from a disappointing start to gain momentum for themselves, few view them as legitimate options to unseat Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E.

That leaves a shadow of doubt about the future of the act. Where do the over-the-top babyfaces go from here? What is left to accomplish and against whom?

Look no further than the fresh faces that have recently invaded the main roster.

The Vaudevillains

The potential is there for The New Day to be the team that lends credibility to The Vaudevillains. As the "manly men" of a time gone by, English and Gotch play off the sarcastic and entertaining champions perfectly.

They are so serious and so determined to establish themselves as the top team in wrestling. To see The New Day mock them sets up a fun dynamic—much more entertaining than some of the rather generic scenarios that have played out on WWE programming over the last eight months.

Kingston, Woods and Big E have been so successful that beating them for the tag titles will mean a great deal when a team finally takes the championships away. Imagine the boost such a victory would provide The Vaudevillains in the eyes of the fans. They would be the heels who took the titles, the baddies who ended the fun.

They would position themselves to be the top heel team in WWE, at least in the short term. That would give New Day quality competition to last into the summer.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass

The severe concussion suffered by Enzo Amore at Payback may have cooled the momentum of his team with Big Cass, but The Certified G and his 7'0" buddy will be back proving to the world why they are among the most over acts in all of WWE. When they do, it is only a matter of time before they confront The New Day and a war between smack talkers ensues.

The promos between the teams alone would generate interest, if only because they both have that rare charisma and comedic timing that compel audiences. They are also beautifully ridiculous, and their outrageous personalities are a welcome addition to an industry that often takes itself too seriously.

The matches themselves would be fine, but they would be secondary to the angles and promo work the two teams would put in.

The real winners? The fans.

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson

The tandem of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson has already made a habit of demolishing former tag champions in The Usos, and the two have mixed it up with the top star in the company, Roman Reigns.

With The Club poised to dominate WWE for the foreseeable future, what better way to establish Gallows and Anderson within the company than by having them battle wrestling's top team in a series of tag wars?

Anderson and Gallows would force a more serious side from the champions and provide fans with a glimpse of The New Day that they have not seen to this point.

The quality of the matches would be superb, if only because everyone involved is skilled in tag team wrestling. The storyline would provide the division with a program that could easily headline episodes of Raw and SmackDown if management so wished.
