Power Ranking Main Event Potential for Newly Introduced WWE Superstars

The Doctor Chris MuellerMay 12, 2016

Ever since The Royal Rumble, we have seen numerous Superstars make their ways from NXT to the main roster.

Guys like Apollo Crews, Sami Zayn, The Vaudevillains and Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady have all advanced to the next levels in their careers.

This slideshow will rank all of WWE's newest Superstars by their main event potentials.

Since being at the top of the card means being a singles star, we will be ranking members of tag teams separately. Also, AJ Styles was thrust into the main event within weeks of his debut, so he will not be included in the list of Superstars to debut since the Rumble. Everyone else is fair game.

Factors considered include mic skills, technical ability, charisma, overall look and the possibility of a person's gimmick to be taken seriously on the main event scene.

9. Simon Gotch

1 of 9

Out of everyone who has debuted since The Royal Rumble, Simon Gotch seems to be the least likely person to ever make it to the main event scene in WWE.

This is not to say he isn't talented. He is skilled as a wrestler and on the mic, but his talents are being used perfectly with a tag team partner.

If he were by himself, nobody would take him seriously, but somehow his gimmick is easier to swallow when he has someone doing the same thing standing right next to him.

8. Aiden English

2 of 9

Like his partner, Aiden English seems better suited to be in a tag team than anything else. If he were to break up with Gotch, he might not make it far.

His old-school gimmick and look won't do him any favors as a singles star, but there is always time for him to evolve past his Vaudevillain character.

English has a better chance of getting to the top than Gotch, but not by much. With a few changes, he could look like he was born within the past 100 years, but it might not be enough to get him to the top.

7. Luke Gallows

3 of 9

Luke Gallows has worked hard to shed the memories from his first run in WWE, but there's no escaping a gimmick like Festus.

His time in Japan turned Gallows into a more well-rounded Superstar, but his value as a tag team wrestler far outweighs his value as a singles competitor.

His mic skills are decent, but they are not on par with someone like Seth Rollins or Dean Ambrose. It's hard to imagine him trading insults with the WWE world heavyweight champion.

It's possible he could get to that point with time and effort, but based on where he is right now, Gallows will make a better enforcer than a leader for the rest of his career, and that's just fine. For every main eventer, WWE needs at least two midcard stars.

6. Baron Corbin

4 of 9

Baron Corbin might look like he has all the right traits to be a main event player in WWE, but he is lacking in a few key areas.

Corbin is a great heel because he is a convincing bully, but we have yet to see him tested in a long match, where endurance and technical ability come into play.

He hasn't set the world on fire with his promos, and his look needs some work. He is a little generic at the moment, which makes it easy to lump him into a certain category.

Corbin will have a great career and may even win a few midcard titles, but he doesn't seem like the kind of person who will end up facing the John Cenas and Randy Ortons of the world.

5. Enzo Amore

5 of 9

There's no denying Enzo Amore's ability to make a crowd eat out of the palm of his hand, but a few things will hold him back that won't affect his partner.

For one, Amore is much smaller than the average wrestler. Guys like Daniel Bryan and Rey Mysterio have broken the mold, but for the most part, it's hard for anyone under 220 pounds to make it to the top in WWE.

His mic skills will carry him far and make him a great midcard talent who occasionally mixes with main event stars, but his look will hold him back. Enzo stands out, but you don't expect to see the title around the waist of a guy wearing three different kinds of leopard print at the same time.

He could always change up his character to become more marketable, but he will always be fighting an uphill battle.

4. Karl Anderson

6 of 9

Karl Anderson has been known as a tag team specialist for a long time, but if WWE ever separates him from Luke Gallows, he will have a much better opportunity of making it to the top.

Anderson has a good look, great technical ability and well over a decade of experience to put him ahead of the curve.

Gallows will never escape his history as Festus, but Anderson is new to the majority of American fans. He has the chance to start fresh and create his own legacy from scratch.

He has shown potential on the mic but needs to be by himself before we will know if he can survive without a group backing him up.

3. Big Cass

7 of 9

Enzo Amore's injury at Payback was unfortunate, but one good thing to come out of it is Colin Cassady's opportunity to prove his worth as a singles star.

Everyone thought he wasn't a good talker because Amore was so much better than everyone else, but Big Cass has shown us he can be entertaining in his own right.

He has the look and size to be marketable, and the fans already love him. Being 7'0" gives him an extra advantage because he can be booked as an unstoppable monster.

Many would think Amore's mic skills would get him to the top before Big Cass, but the reality is that WWE considers so many more factors. Cass has a better look to be the top dog, which is something Vince McMahon takes into consideration.

He was great during his segment with Chris Jericho on Raw, and it showed faith from management to have him in the opening and closing segments of the show.

2. Apollo Crews

8 of 9

Make no mistake—just because WWE has poorly handled Apollo Crews since his debut on the main roster the night after WrestleMania doesn't mean he won't make it to the top at some point.

Crews was lost in the shuffle with so many other storylines going on at the same time, but he has all the tools needed to be a top star.

His combination of explosive power and cat-like quickness puts him on a different level than most of the roster, and he has the look we all know Vince McMahon likes.

He hasn't had much chance to show off his mic skills, but once he is put in a proper storyline, the whole WWE Universe will see the potential we saw in him during Crews' time in NXT.

With any luck, he will win his first midcard title before the end of the year and find himself gradually moving closer to the main event by WrestleMania 34.

1. Sami Zayn

9 of 9

If anyone could be a spiritual successor to Daniel Bryan as the underdog fan favorite in WWE, it's Sami Zayn.

The crowd already loves Zayn for his high-risk style, his technical acumen and the fact that he isn't trying to play a character too different from his real personality.

He has put on several show-stealing matches since joining the main roster and did the same thing when he was in NXT.

The feud between Kevin Owens and Zayn has elevated the careers of both men, and when their storyline eventually ends, it wouldn't be surprising to see one of them pursue the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

How would you rank all these newcomers' potentials to be main event stars?
