Liverpool Transfer News: Top Rumours on Steven Gerrard, Jordan Rossiter and More

Rob BlanchetteMay 9, 2016

The player tipped to "follow in the footsteps" of Steven Gerrard is set to depart Anfield—as Jordan Rossiter prepares for a switch to Scotland to join Glasgow Rangers.

The England under-19 captain's deal runs out at Liverpool this summer, freeing him to move north of the border to the revitalised Scottish giants.

Simon Jones of the Mail On Sunday reported the well-regarded midfielder "will speak to Rangers this week ahead of a prospective move." The Ibrox outfit have made an official approach in their bid to capture Rossiter, who has often been compared to legendary former skipper Gerrard during his teenage years.

Rossiter has been on Liverpool's books since the age of six and is also being monitored by Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Udinese, according to Jones. The Reds want £8 million in compensation if the prodigy walks away from the club but risk losing him for as little as £250,000 if he makes the jump to the Scottish Premiership.

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo commented on the expected deal for the 19-year-old:

Rossiter featured for manager Jurgen Klopp in the UEFA Europa League this term but has slipped behind Kevin Stewart, who recently penned a new deal with the club, per Jones.

As the player decides to move from Merseyside, there is a chance Gerrard might return after the LA Galaxy star admitted he misses his hometown club and city.

Jamie Anderson of the Daily Star quoted the former England superstar talking about his future, and he left no doubt about his future intentions:

"

I miss going to the games. I spent 35 years in Liverpool. Liverpool's my home, it always will be.

I'm sure somewhere down the line I will represent Liverpool football club.

Sooner rather than later I will return to where I'm comfortable with my people - and that's Liverpool.

In other news, the summer of squad reshaping by Klopp has begun after it was announced Spanish defender Jose Enrique has been released by Liverpool.

Dominic King of the MailOnline reported the former Newcastle defender has been shown the exit door by Klopp, given an early release from his £72,000-per-week deal after just 21 matches in three years. The player cost £5 million from the Magpies in 2011, completing 89 appearances for the Reds, providing two goals and 10 assists.

The loss of Rossiter will upset Liverpool fans who follow the youth and reserve set-up at Anfield as he was tipped for greatness as the next local lad to make a big breakthrough.

However, injury curtailed his opportunities just at the time Klopp was leaning on youth, and a fresh start in Glasgow could see him restart his career successfully.

Rangers will be looking for new heroes as they once again participate in the top league, and Rossiter has the ability to dominate in the Scottish Premiership.
