Kyle Busch took advantage of some timely cautions and a sloppy pit stop by former leader Martin Truex Jr. to win the GoBowling 400 on Saturday at Kansas Speedway.

Fox Sports and NASCAR congratulated the Las Vegas native after his victory:

Busch's win will be in the record books, but that was not the story of the night. Truex, who was the pole-sitter for the first time in four years, led for 172 laps, but his right-front tire came loose on Lap 211, which forced him to go to pit road.

By the time his pit crew got his car ready, Truex had fallen behind by a lap.

Busch, who seized the lead on Lap 231, led for 69 laps before securing the win. Kevin Harvick finished second, while Kurt Busch came in third.

Ryan McGee of ESPN.com took note of Kyle Busch's stellar racing:

Truex's momentum from winning the pole in Kansas carried over when the green flag waved Saturday. The No. 78 Toyota opened up a nearly three-and-a-half-second lead over Matt Kenseth 20 laps in. Kurt Busch followed in third but trailed by nearly five seconds.

Truex's large lead put Reed Sorenson in a tough spot early on, per Brett Winningham of Speedway Digest:

One night after the Camping World Truck Series race saw 11 cautions, with the first coming on the second lap, the yellow flag was unleashed for the first time on Lap 23. Truex took to pit road for a change of tires and fell one spot behind Matt DiBenedetto. Truex's pit crew had trouble getting a new set of tires onto the car, and one of them ended up in the grass, per Fox Sports:

But Truex soon regained the top spot on the 59th lap, and the tandem of Truex and Busch remained in first and second for the next 40 laps, via FS1:

Despite Truex holding a comfortable lead for most of the race, there were notable lead changes beginning at the 159-lap mark. Joey Logano, who came into Saturday having won two of the last three races at Kansas Speedway, took the lead for a lap before Danica Patrick stormed out in front on the 160th lap, per NASCAR:

A loose right-front tire derailed Truex's momentum with fewer than 60 laps to go. After leading for 172 laps, he fell to 22nd by Lap 220. He also fell behind by two laps, via Fox Sports:

Just when things were going well for Truex, the unscheduled pit stop appeared to cost him the race, as he eventually finished in 14th, per Jeff Gluck of USA Today:

The lead changed numerous times after Truex fell to the bottom of the pack, with Stewart going out in front with 40 laps to go. But much like Truex, Stewart fell to the bottom half in an instant, with Kyle Busch regaining the lead.

It turned out to be a tough break for Truex, but to lead nearly from wire to wire was impressive.

This was a huge victory for Kyle Busch in terms of the Sprint Cup standings. He trailed Harvick by nine points for the top spot in the standings entering Saturday, and the win should propel him to the top as NASCAR nears the halfway point of the season.

Post-Race Reaction

Truex was in disbelief when the right front tire first shook, but he had a bad feeling the minute he got to Turn 3.

"I couldn't believe it," Truex said, per Reid Spencer of NASCAR.com "I went around (Turns) 1 and 2, and I was like, 'The wheel's loose.' I kept telling myself that maybe it's not, maybe it's just shaking because it has tape on it or something stupid. It was loose, and I knew it right away. Frustrating, but that's how it goes.

But despite that tough break on Saturday, he has full confidence wins will come soon.

"We're going to win races for sure," Truex said, per Spencer. "If we keep bringing cars like that, we're going to win some. It's frustrating when you've had it happen so many times in your career.

Busch credits his first win at Kansas to patience and finding the right lanes when they were available.

"I knew our car was best out front," Busch said, per Spencer. "I had trouble in traffic all night long. I wasn't the best at being able to pick my way through that stuff, but when we had green flag pit stops, I really got some good holes and was able to make some good time."

Busch knew it was a tough start, but was happy the race finished the way it did. Now, the only tracks he's yet to win at are Charlotte and Pocono now that Kansas is off the board.

"I can't say enough about everybody on this team," Busch said, per Spencer. "At the beginning of the race, we weren't very good. (Crew chief) Adam Stevens and the guys just keep working on it. The 78 (Truex) was probably the fastest car but we just kept ourselves in the game. It's pretty impressive."
