
Kentucky Derby Results 2016: Winner, Final Race Times and Purse Payout
Eight races up, eight races down. Nyquist was the winner of the 142nd Kentucky Derby on Saturday and remained undefeated in his racing career.
The pre-race favorite, starting from the No. 13 gate, closed as a 2-1 favorite, per KentuckyDerby.com. Nyquist stormed past Danzing Candy coming down the homestretch to take the win. The top three favorites rounded out the win, place and show spots.
Exaggerator (5-1) came in second, while Gun Runner (10-1) came in third.

Nyquist became the eighth undefeated horse to win the Derby, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Nyquist became the fourth consecutive favorite to cross the finish line first at the Derby, per Dan Wolken of USA Today. He'll also draw comparisons to last year's winner, American Pharoah, who made history and won the Triple Crown.

Until Nyquist finishes a race outside of first place, the Triple Crown talk needs to take place. Jockey Mario Gutierrez maintained a consistent pace for Nyquist from the moment he exited the starting gate. He should be the consensus favorite heading into the Preakness.
