Kentucky Oaks Results 2016: Winner, Payouts and Order of Finish
The 142nd running of the Kentucky Oaks was deemed to be up for grabs after dominant filly Songbird was ruled out with a low-grade fever in April, and Cathryn Sophia took advantage Friday afternoon at Churchill Downs in Louisville.
NBC Sports shared a replay:
Cathryn Sophia has won five of her six races, while trainer John Servis—who also trained Smarty Jones in 2004—captured his first Oaks win, per the Daily Racing Form.
Land over Sea and Lewis Bay rounded out the top three in the $1 million Grade 1 race that featured 14 three-year-old fillies in front of a record Oaks crowd of 124,589, according to the Courier-Journal.
Here's a look at the complete results from Friday's race:

Although Cathryn Sophia suffered the first loss of her career in April at the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes, where she finished third behind Weep No More and Rachel's Valentina, she rebounded spectacularly Friday afternoon, as Horse Racing Nation's Brian Zipse noted:
The filly started slow, but she made a move toward the outside of the pack and went three wide before shooting into fourth place at the three-quarter-mile mark.
And then, once the backstretch rolled around, jockey Javier Castellano unleashed her full speed as she separated from Land over Sea, Lewis Bay and Rachel's Valentina.
Cathryn Sophia wasn't a terribly long shot at 9-2 entering race day, but Lewis Bay and morning-line favorite Rachel's Valentina both appeared to be primed for big afternoons.
Lewis Bay was the only horse in Friday's field who had won a 1 1/8-mile race, according to WLKY.com's Fred Cowgill, and that experience looked like it could be the difference.
Rachel's Valentina was another filly to watch, given her lineage. Her mother, Rachel Alexandra, set a Kentucky Oaks record in 2009 with a margin of victory that exceeded 20 lengths, and there was hope that kind of breakaway speed would be on display by the bay filly.
According to Racing Stats & Info, the morning-line favorite has now failed to win the Oaks in five of the last six years.
While the Oaks was a tremendous show, it represented an appetizer for what promises to be a thrilling Kentucky Derby on Saturday.
Nyquist has been generating hype all week in advance of the 142nd Run for the Roses, but the bay colt figures to be challenged by Louisiana Derby winner Gun Runner out of the No. 5 post and Santa Anita Derby champion Exaggerator out of the 11th starting gate.
And with American Pharoah's Triple Crown jaunt still fresh in the minds of horse racing fans everywhere, Saturday's spectacle has a high standard to live up to as a new horse seeks to make a run toward history.
Post-Race Reaction
Blood-Horse's Claire Novak relayed video of Cathryn Sophia draped in celebratory lillies following her triumph:
"She improved so much since the Ashland, I felt really good," Servis said following the win, according to Blood-Horse.
Castellano was also effusive in his praise of the three-year-old, per Blood-Horse:
"She's not crazy, she's just mean...," Servis said, according to Daily Racing Form's Nicole Russo. "The great thing is, she carries that attitude to the racetrack."
Oh my God, to have the [Kentucky Derby] and [Kentucky Oaks] on my resume and to have only run one each time, it's fantastic," Servis added, per America's Best Racing on Twitter.
