Real Madrid Transfer News: Dele Alli to Follow Gareth Bale Route, Latest Rumours

Christopher SimpsonMay 5, 2016

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli, with the hope he will follow the same path to the Santiago Bernabeu as Luka Modric and Gareth Bale did before him.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Bruce Archer of the Express), Los Blancos have "taken notice" of the PFA Young Player of the Year and "set their sights" on a summer deal for the youngster.

Real have previously snapped up two of Spurs' best players in recent years, with Modric and Bale becoming mainstays in their side after big-money moves.

Alli has enjoyed an exceptional debut season with the Lilywhites, firmly establishing himself in the starting XI and excelling throughout despite only turning 20 in April.

The midfielder has bagged 10 goals and 11 assists this season, and the rest of his numbers are similarly impressive. According to Squawka, the playmaker has not only created 55 chances in the Premier League, but he's also shown his willingness to work hard to regain possession in midfield by winning 53 tackles and making 61 interceptions.

That form saw Bleacher Report UK's Sam Tighe list him as the division's second-best attacking midfielder this year:

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker believes the youngster could have a vital role to play for England this summer:

Indeed, during his recent call up to the Three Lions' squad, the Times' Henry Winter hailed his performance:

Real Madrid would undoubtedly prove tempting for the youngster, but he's only been at Spurs one season, and with the club in the UEFA Champions League and potentially set to challenge for the title yet again next year, there's little reason to leave Tottenham right now.

If he were to join Real, he would be linking up with Bale, who despite speculation over his future insists he is happy in the Spanish capital.

Per the Manchester Evening News' Alice McKeegan, the Welshman is wanted by incoming Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola this summer, but according to Sport, he said: "I feel like I'm maturing. My Spanish is getting better. I'm integrating more with the team. It is difficult the first few years but once you get past that mark then it does get a bit easier. I feel like I've turned a corner in that sense now. I'm enjoying my football here."

Bale proved decisive in sending his side to the Champions League final on Wednesday, per BT Sport Football:

He has now scored 19 goals and assisted 14 in just 29 games this season, and football journalist Dermot Corrigan noted the way he carried his team through the match with City:

Given how well he's played when he's been on the pitch, it's a shame he's spent a fairly significant amount of time on the sidelines this season through injury.

Bale has well and truly put last year's somewhat sub-par campaign behind him now, though, so expect him to continue to grow in his importance to the team.
