Real Madrid vs. Manchester City: Goals, Highlights from Champions League Match

Ryan BaileyMay 4, 2016

Real Madrid went into Wednesday evening's Champions League semi-final second leg against Manchester City with form behind them.

They had won all five of their home games in the competition in this campaign and were undefeated against English opponents in their past nine outings, per Scott Murray of the Guardian. And, of course, a certain Portuguese megastar was fit and ready:

The Real Madrid team bus enjoyed a ceremonious arrival at the stadium:

In the 20th minute, Gareth Bale knocked in the first goal of the tie with a deflected strike across the face of goal, but it was later ruled an own goal by Fernando:

The ball was in the back of City's net once again in the 36th minute, but it was ruled offside:

Yaya Toure was substituted with 29 minutes remaining. His highlight reel didn't make for pretty viewing:

Shortly after Toure's exit, Bale nearly doubled Madrid's advantage, but his header struck the bar:

Ronaldo completed Bale's move by putting the ball in the net. Unfortunately, he quite clearly used his hands to do so:

With seven minutes of normal time remaining, Kevin De Bruyne had a chance to deliver a dangerous free-kick. However, it landed in the side netting:

With minutes left on the clock, Sergio Aguero had the opportunity to put City in the final, but his fierce shot sailed over:

Los Blancos held out, and the game finished 1-0, earning the Spanish giants a trip to their 14th Champions League final.
