Heat vs. Raptors: Twitter Reacts to Kyle Lowry's Game-Tying Shot in Game 1

Matt FitzgeraldMay 3, 2016

The Air Canada Centre went wild Tuesday when Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry heaved in a half-court shot at the fourth-quarter buzzer to force overtime against the Miami Heat in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series.

Lowry had missed his prior five three-point attempts in Tuesday's contest but made his first make count after Heat center Hassan Whiteside split a pair of free throws, triggering a massive reaction on Twitter.

Dime Magazine invoked native Toronto rapper Drake to celebrate the epic Lowry shot, which tied the game's score at 90:

Hoops Habit's Josh Eberley was wondering why the Raptors trusted Lowry in the clutch situation before the desperation attempt fell:

Turner Sports' Matt Winer felt any struggles Lowry endured to that point could be at least temporarily forgiven:

Tim Bontemps of the Washington Post didn't know what else to attribute it to other than the generally unpredictable nature of athletic competition:

Here's the best of the rest:

Lowry's tying trey didn't hold as much significance as it could have, though, because Toronto failed to capitalize on its new life and wound up losing in overtime, 102-96.

Some of the reaction hinted at it, but it's worth mentioning how much Lowry has struggled when it's mattered most. The All-Star floor general was 7-of-48 shooting in the postseason from three-point range before he tied Tuesday's game, per SportsCenter on Twitter.

For the Raptors to live up to their billing as the No. 2 seed in the East and advance to the conference finals, Lowry must find his offensive rhythm.

The phenomenal three may help Lowry build back some confidence and overshadow the abysmal playoff slump he's been on—provided he and Toronto bounce back to win Game 2 on Thursday and even up the series.
