IPL Results 2016: Scores, Points Table, Schedule After April 30 Doubleheader
The Delhi Daredevils are up to second in the IPL standings as they secured a fine 27-run win over the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday.
After losing both openers in the first over, half-centuries from Karun Nair and Sam Billings helped the Daredevils recover to a strong total of 186 for eight. Early wickets prevented Kolkata from building a head of steam in their chase, and they fell short despite a game 72 from Robin Uthappa.
Later on, the Hyderabad Sunrisers beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 15 runs thanks to David Warner's outstanding knock of 92 to kickstart their campaign.
Here’s a reminder of how the day’s action panned out and a look at the standings after a brilliant win for Delhi.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore
Sunrisers, 194-5 (Warner 92, Nehra 1-32) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore, 179-6 (Rahul 51, Richardson 2-45) by 15 runs.
Warner got the hosts off to a perfect start as he battled his way to a 50-ball 92, which included nine fours and five sixes.
Along with Kane Williamson, who got an even half-century himself, Warner helped the Sunrisers rack up an impressive total, per cricket commentator Ayaz Memon:
Indeed, Bangalore struggled with ball in hand as Kane Richardson was the only bowler to get more than one wicket, but at the cost of 45 runs across his four overs.
Moises Henriques piled on further runs with a late unbeaten 31 and it was only an excellent final over from Shane Watson, which limited Hyderabad to just six runs and saw Deepak Hooda ran out, that prevented the score being even higher, per commentator Harsha Bhogle:
Sky Sports Cricket shared the stats after the hosts' innings:
A good start for Bangalore was imperative if they were to catch their opponents, but Virat Kohli was dismissed for just 14 when he hit Mustafizur Rahman's delivery straight to Ashish Reddy.
However, his starting partner Lokesh Rahul and his replacement AB de Villiers gave the visitors some hope, though, as they bagged 51 and 47 respectively. As Sky Sports Cricket revealed, the latter twice benefited from slices of luck before finally succumbing to Barinder Sran:
His exit ensured any hopes of mounting a successful chase were truly dashed, as earlier Watson—in for Rahul—had been run out for just two runs.
Sachin Baby's quick 27 and Kedar Jadhav's late unbeaten 25 helped make the score respectable, but the damage had been done in the first innings and in the dismissals of Kohli and Watson.
The Sunrisers' IPL campaign is now back on track and the win puts them level on points with the Delhi Daredevils, the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians. They face a difficult task in trying to overcome the imperious Gujarat Lions in their next match, but if they can rack up a similar total they could well do it.
Delhi Daredevils vs. Kolkata Knight Riders
Delhi Daredevils, 186-8 (Nair 68, Yadav 3-33), beat the Kolkata Knight Riders, 159 all out (Uthappa 72, Khan 3-21) by 27 runs.
The Daredevils got off to the worst possible start in this one, as both openers were back in the dugout inside the first over.
It was Andre Russell doing the damage with the ball in hand, with Shreyas Iyer the first man to go off the third ball of the match.
As cricket statistician Mohandas Menon noted here, the Delhi opener has got into a bad habit of notching ducks:
To compound matters, Quinton de Kock followed soon after. The South African has shown he is a force to be reckoned with in this format already in the tournament. However, he was snaffled by Brad Hogg for just one, leaving Delhi in disarray at two for two.
Sanju Samson was tasked with rebuilding after this horrendous beginning, although he fell for a run-a-ball 15 in the fifth over. The Daredevils, 33 for three, needed something special. And in the form of a fine partnership between Nair and Billings, they got it.

Nair was the boundary hitter of the two, while Billings, a dynamic cricketer, was happy to nudge the ball around and run hard. By the time the former departed for 68 from 50 balls, the duo had put 105 runs on the board.
Alt Cricket praised Nair's approach against the dangerous Sunil Narine:
"Karun Nair is showing how to play Narine: sweep shots mean that you don't have to worry about picking which way the ball is turning! #IPL
— Alt Cricket (@AltCricket) April 30, 2016"
Chris Morris fell a couple of balls later for a duck, bringing Carlos Brathwaite to the crease alongside Billings.
The Englishman did depart for a fine 54 from 34 balls in the penultimate over, but the big-hitting Brathwaite had already taken up the charge. The West Indies man was only at the crease for 11 balls, but he hammered three fours and three sixes in a blistering 34.
As cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle added, there were some classy shots in his knock:
That late impetus saw Delhi push on to a strong total of 186 for eight, which was a stunning effort given their early-innings woes.
Knight Riders are a team set up for chasing, especially with Gautam Gambhir and Uthappa opening the batting. But Delhi did well to sap any early momentum from the innings.

The dangerous Gambhir was snaffled for just six before he could find his groove, while Piyush Chawla could also only make a single-figure score, falling for just eight. It was the veteran left-armer Zaheer Khan doing the damage, taking both of these key wickets.
Aakash Chopra was also impressed with the captaincy of Khan, as the Daredevils prised out another major threat, Yusuf Pathan, for just 10:
At 53 for three after eight overs, there was a big job on for the remaining batsmen if this chase was to be successful. With 10 overs remaining, a difficult 99 runs were needed.
The ante needed to be upped, and after some flourishes early on in his innings, Suryakumar Yadav eventually miscued one and was out for 21. Suddenly Brathwaite, who did so much damage with the bat, had two wickets with the ball as well.

The West Indies star had his third soon after, with Kolkata beginning to get a little desperate in their chase. Rajagopal Sathish was next out for just six, and it seemed this chase was beyond Kolkata.
Cricbuzz paid tribute to the decisive Brathwaite:
Russell was the last hope for the Knight Riders as he strode to the crease to join the anchoring Uthappa, and together, they began to move through the gears.
The latter, in particular, started to find the middle of the bat, with a flurry of boundaries keeping Kolkata up with the required run rate of two per ball. When Russell fell to a stunning catch from Amit Mishra and Jason Holder went in the very next over, it was all up to the opener.
Here's the catch from Mishra:
Despite this late surge from Kolkata, Delhi held their nerve and eventually grabbed the key wicket with Uthappa slicing a cut to Nair. Now eight down, Kolkata were rudderless and eventually crumbled to 159 all out in the penultimate over.
In Uthappa, the Knight Riders have a player who is so capable in this format, and had one member of the batting lineup stuck with him for a longer spell, they would have won this match.
Delhi, who have had a quietly impressive beginning to the 2016 IPL, will take great confidence from the way they bounced back in their innings and how they maintained composure late on.
