Liverpool Transfer News: Danny Ings Settlement Fee Revealed After Burnley Move

Gianni VerschuerenApr 28, 2016

A Premier League tribunal has ordered Liverpool to pay a total of £8 million for the transfer of Danny Ings, bringing an end to a lengthy saga involving the England international's move to Anfield from Burnley.

According to Dominic King of the Daily Mail, Burnley will also be entitled to 20 per cent of any future transfer fee for Ings.

Ings joined the Reds as a free agent in 2015, but Burnley were entitled to a development fee—something the two clubs couldn't agree on. The matter eventually went to the Compensation Committee, which has now ordered Liverpool to pay £6.5 million immediately along with £1.5 million in add-ons.

Ings has missed most of the 2015-16 campaign with a knee injury, but he scored 32 Premier League goals combined in the two seasons prior with Burnley, per WhoScored.com.

Per James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, the £8 million fee is the highest ever set by an English tribunal. According to the report, the club valued Ings at £6 million.

In a statement released via their official website, the Reds thanked the committee and made it clear they won't fight the outcome:

"

Liverpool Football Club would like to thank the PFCC panel for their time and diligence in deciding this matter.

We believe the process was conducted fairly, and we respect the outcome.

We are pleased for Danny Ings, in particular, that this chapter is now complete, and he can look forward to a long and successful career at Liverpool.

"

Per Pearce, Burnley told the tribunal Ings' value was closer to £12 million, and the eventual fee of £8 million seems fair value for a young player with star potential. Per Andy Burton of Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur were willing to pay the full £12 million for Ings.

Pearce thinks the Reds have every right to be pleased with the tribunal's decision:

Ings has barely had the opportunity to convince new manager Jurgen Klopp of his talent, as he suffered his injury shortly after the German arrived at Anfield. He's expected to become a major contributor once he returns to form, however, handing the Liverpool squad a boost before the summer transfer window opens.
