WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for April 28

Erik BeastonApr 26, 2016

The drama between Roman Reigns and AJ Styles reached new heights on Raw, and Tuesday night, just 24 hours later, the Superstars were under the same roof as WWE rolled into Manchester, New Hampshire, for this week's SmackDown tapings.

Thanks to our friends at WrestlingInc.com, we have all the spoilers for you.

After coming to blows for the first time on Monday's broadcast, tensions between the two were as high as they could be without them actually taking to the squared circle for their WWE World Heavyweight Championship match. The question, as fans packed the arena for Tuesday's tapings, was whether they would be able to maintain their cool or whether their mounting issues would prove insurmountable.

Add an appearance on Miz TV for the controversial titleholder Reigns and the situation became even more explosive.

With talent such as Dean Ambrose, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin and WWE women's champion Charlotte helping to round out a card stacked with immensely talented performers, SmackDown once again delivered a strong show on paper.

Will it convince you to tune in to this week's show, though?

Results

  • WWE world heavyweight champion Roman Reigns joined intercontinental champion The Miz and Maryse for Miz TV. The talk show host tried to attack Reigns, leading to him being tossed out of the ring and the eventual main event match between the two.
  • WWE United States champion Kalisto, Sami Zayn and Cesaro defeated The League of Nations by count-out when Alberto Del Rio and Rusev walked out on Sheamus.
  • Baron Corbin defeated Damien Sandow.
  • Charlotte and Ric Flair joined Dean Ambrose for The Ambrose Asylum. The promo, which included back-and-forth barbs, was said to be "very entertaining."
  • Enzo Amore and Big Cass defeated The Social Outcasts. The New Day sat in on commentary while The Vaudevillains made their presence felt at ringside.
  • Apollo Crews defeated Stardust.
  • When Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson attacked, Reigns defeated The Miz via disqualification. The Usos and AJ Styles all got involved to close out the show.

Analysis

For The League of Nations, there really was nothing else for them to accomplish as a team, outside of holding all of the gold available to them. That is not happening now, or anytime soon, given the current WWE landscape, so it was no real surprise to see them split up.

What was a surprise, though, was that the split came in what is essentially a throwaway six-man tag team match. Why waste the breakup of three teammates, who were once integral parts of the main event not all that long ago, on a show widely considered the second-most important?

My assessment that it has nothing to do with any ongoing stories, and it will not have any effect on Sunday's Payback pay-per-view makes the timing even more curious.

The rest of the card looks like standard SmackDown fare in that the show almost always promises entertaining and quality matches, but there's a complete lack of storyline advancement.

That is, unless the idea is to come from out of nowhere to deliver what should be a much more significant split than it appears to be in execution.
