Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Alvaro Morata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenApr 25, 2016

Juventus forward Alvaro Morata has fired up a new round of transfer rumours by refusing to commit to the Bianconeri for next season amid speculation Arsenal are planning a move for the Spaniard. Meanwhile, Chelsea will reportedly rival the Gunners for Borussia Dortmund's Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t Football Italia), Juventus are planning to buy out a buy-back clause Real Madrid inserted into the deal to move Morata to Turin back in 2014.

Arsenal reportedly want to use that clause to bring Morata to London, a move that would see Real activate the clause before selling him on immediately.

Per Charlie Phillippe of the Daily Express, the 23-year-old was asked about the Juventus shirt after the club's 2-1 win over Fiorentina on Saturday, which all but guaranteed the Bianconeri their fifth straight title, and Morata refused to give a definitive answer regarding his future:

"

Do I like this shirt [referring to the Juve jersey]? For me, what I like is scoring goals. I'm fighting for Juventus as they're my team. Will I stay? We'll see.

"

Chelsea are also interested in Morata, per Phillippe.

The Spain international suffered through an up-and-down season with the Bianconeri, losing his scoring touch in the middle of the campaign. He bounced back nicely in the second half of the season and put together a fantastic performance in the team's narrow UEFA Champions League loss against Bayern Munich.

Per WhoScored.com, Morata scored seven goals and added six assists in Serie A. Here's a look at his highlights:

Morata is mainly known for his incredible work rate and diverse skill set, and at Juventus, scoring isn't his primary task. He'll occupy defenders, create space and act as a target man, with the likes of Paulo Dybala and Claudio Marchisio playing around him.

That doesn't mean he doesn't produce. Per WhoScored.com, his statistics looked fantastic once he returned to form:

Mario Mandzukic was Juventus' main starter next to Dybala during the 2015-16 season, making a Morata departure more likely than it was a year ago. The Bianconeri will do whatever they can to keep hold of their young star, however, and he's expected to stay in Turin.

The chance to play for boyhood club Real could tempt Morata to leave Turin, but Los Blancos' clause isn't absolute. The club can't force the Spaniard to return to Madrid, and he's unlikely to agree to a return if he's going to be sold on immediately after.

Elsewhere, German tabloid Bild (h/t Daily Star's Alex Harris) claims Chelsea are preparing a move for Mkhitaryan, a Blues transfer target last summer who has also been linked with the Gunners.

The Armenian has enjoyed a phenomenal season with Borussia Dortmund, playing a huge role in BVB's return to prominence after their dreadful 2014-15 campaign. Per Squawka Football, his numbers in the Bundesliga are incredible:

Here's a look at his highlights:

The 27-year-old has just one year left on his contract, and negotiations with Dortmund haven't resulted in a new deal so far.

Mkhitaryan is expected to sign a new deal, but if he doesn't, a number of clubs will no doubt join the race to land the former Shakhtar Donetsk star during the summer.
