Indians vs. Kings XI
Mumbai, 189/6 (Patel 81, Bumrah 3 for 26) beat Punjab, 164/7 (Maxwell 56, Sharma 3 for 38) by 25 runs.
Both of these teams were desperate for a win entering Monday’s match, as Punjab sat in last place in the standings, and the defending champions were only sixth.
Kings XI won the toss and elected to field, and almost immediately, the decision paid off. Rohit Sharma was caught for a duck, handing the hosts an early advantage.

But the advantage didn’t last long. Sharma’s opening partner, Patel, put together a patient knock, lasting all the way until the 19th over. Ambati Rayudu added 65 from 37, and by the time he was caught in the 15th over, Mumbai had already scored 137 runs.
Cricket writer Ayaz Memon thought Punjab weren’t making things easy on themselves:
Indians continued their fine knock, with Jos Buttler adding a quick 24 from 13, but their pace slowed in the final overs. Kieron Pollard was caught for only 10 runs, and the eventual target of 190 could have been higher.
Punjab still had a mountain to climb, however, due to Patel’s half-century. Per ESPNcricinfo's Bharath Seervi, he seems to enjoy taking on Kings XI:
Cricket writer Mohandas Menon noted Punjab had had success chasing scores of 190 or more in the past, however:
Mohit Sharma found most success with the ball for Punjab, finishing with figures of three for 38. He and Sandeep Sharma were the only bowlers to finish with economy rates in the single digits.

Punjab's chase started with a dud, as the team grabbed just a single run from their first over, and the hosts soon found themselves on the back foot. Murali Vijay managed just 19 from 13 before he was caught by Buttler, and Manan Vohra suffered the same fate, putting up seven from 11.
Shaun Marsh (45 from 34) and Maxwell (56 from 39) soon fell behind the required run rate, and after 10 overs, Punjab had scored just 75 runs and watched the required rate go over 11 per over.

David Miller replaced Marsh after he was caught in the 15th over, but by that time, the chase already seemed over, as Punjab needed an additional 65 runs. Maxwell's wicket was the final push Indians needed, as they cruised to the finish line.
Jasprit Bumrah finished with solid figures of three for 26 in his four overs, while Mitchell McClenaghan added two more wickets to his tally.
Per ESPNcricinfo, Sanjay Bangar was disappointed with his team's bowling:
"I thought we bowled pretty poorly in this game. 190 on the track on the large outfield was always going to be challenging. 50-50 things haven't gone out way. No excuses for a poor bowling effort. Maxwell got over that 10-ball barrier and showed us what he is capable of. We have to be positive; we have a break of about 5 days from now.
"
The defending champions have looked inconsistent all season, but when they're clicking, Mumbai have the talent to beat any team in the IPL. The bowlers seem to finally be finding their best form, and if the attack can keep up its end of the bargain, a play-off spot may still be obtainable.
