Daredevils vs. Indians

Delhi, 164/4 (Samson 60, Mishra 2-24) beat Mumbai, 154/7 (Sharma 65, McClenaghan 2-31) by 10 runs.

Mumbai won the toss and elected to bowl in an attempt to take advantage of the dry wicket. The tactic seemed to pay off almost immediately, as Quinton de Kock (nine from seven) was caught by Hardik Pandya in the second over.

Shreyas Iyer (19 from 20) set the pace early for Delhi, but it was the partnership of Samson and Duminy that did most of the damage in the middle overs.

The former found the boundary six times before he was caught by Tim Southee in the 17th over, and the latter added an unbeaten 49 to push the total to 164. Cricket writer Mohandas Menon noticed Duminy made the most of virtually every ball he faced:

Mitchell McClenaghan did most of the damage with the ball, finishing with figures of 2-31, but Mumbai's inability to take wickets late saw the target increase to 165.

Rohit Sharma (65 from 48) did his job early in the chase, but fellow opener Parthiv Patel scored just a single run before he was run out in the second over. Ambati Rayudu (25 from 23) and Krunal Pandya (36 from 17) made solid contributions, but the required run rate still sat at 8.70 after 10 overs.

And that's when Delhi's bowlers kicked into high gear. Jos Butler, Harbhajan Singh and Pandya would combine for just four runs, and Southee scored a single from the only ball he faced. Mumbai's chase was still alive entering the final over, needing 21 from six, but Delhi's bowlers dug in at the right time.

Veteran Amit Mishra led the way with figures of 2-24, and with the exception of Pawan Negi, who bowled just a single over, all of Delhi's bowlers finished with economy rates in the single digits.

Delhi's Zaheer Khan told ESPN Cricinfo he always felt the match would go down to the wire:

"

The wicket was slowing down. If you get the right areas and use cutters it was helping. The game was going to go on till the last over, I felt from the beginning. Anything over 160 was a good total. The key was to have 3-4 overs of the legspinner for Buttler or Pollard. I think Sanju and JP both played brilliantly. They took their time. We are light on our battling and went with an extra leggie. But these two batted brilliantly. With this format it is tough when you have a long break. We are keeping things in control. The processes are followed diligently.

"

Daredevils have now won three straight thanks to their balanced attack, and after a disappointing start to the campaign, the team appears to be on course for a spot in the play-offs. Mumbai's play-off hopes are still alive, but things aren't looking up for the defending champions.

Sunrisers vs. Kings XI

Hyderabad, 146/5 (Warner 59, Rahman 2-9) beat Punjab, 143/6 (Marsh 40, Sharma 1-20) by five wickets (with 13 balls remaining).

Sunrisers won the toss and opted to field, looking to contain Kings XI's attack early. Punjab came into the contest having struggled in most of their matches so far, but with players like Glenn Maxwell and David Miller ready to contribute, they still held plenty of firepower.

But from the first over, the bowlers were in control. Manan Vohra (25 from 23) and Shaun Marsh (40 from 34) found some success, but they never pushed the run rate to where it needed to be, finishing with 7.15 runs per over.

Rahman looked brilliant with the ball, bowling the only maiden over from the match and giving up just nine runs through four overs. He didn't give up a single boundary and took the wickets of Marsh and Nikhil Naik to complete what was a fantastic performance.

Per CricTracker, he set a new IPL record along the way:

His team-mates all finished with an economy rate in the single digits, and Hyderabad's bowling only improved as the match wore on. Miller (nine from 11) and Maxwell (one from two) added little to the innings, and only a late burst from Axar Patel (36 from 17) led to the respectable target of 144.

David Warner (59 from 31) and Shikhar Dhawan (45 from 44) started the chase in strong fashion, and by the time the former was caught in the 10th over, Sunrisers had already scored 90 runs. Aditya Tare was bowled for a duck, but Eoin Morgan (25 from 20) got the chase back on track, and Hyderabad cruised to the finish line.

The win puts the team in third position in the standings, while Punjab remain dead last, having won just a single contest.
