Manchester United Transfer News: Sergio Ramos Talks Red Devils Snub, Top Rumours
Sergio Ramos has revealed he "considered" making a move to Manchester United last summer when he was embroiled in a contract dispute with Real Madrid.
The Spaniard's potential move to Old Trafford—with David De Gea going the other way—was one of the sagas of the 2015 summer transfer window, and reports at the time suggested he was eager to make the switch, per the Guardian's Sid Lowe.
Ramos eventually signed a new five-year deal with Los Blancos, but he admitted that he thought about making a move after receiving an offer from the Red Devils, per Spanish outlet COPE (via Goal's SW Lim):

"There was an offer from United. I considered changing for a while but [Real] was always my priority and there were no economic reasons.
Did I feel cheated [by Madrid]? No, but I did feel disappointed for a while. There were some troubles that came to an end.
I have not heard about [interest from Chelsea]. Many things have always been said.

The Real captain was somewhat out of form at the beginning of the 2015-16 season but has re-established himself now as one of the side's key players.
Ramos, 30, has showed that he is a big-game player and was vital as Real overturned a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Wolfsburg to advance to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, per WhoScored.com:
Ramos' immense experience at the very top level was likely what attracted United to him.
Ahead of the 2015-16 season there were major concerns about the Red Devils defensive unit, with centre-backs Chris Smalling and Phil Jones still yet to make good on their potential.
While Jones has been injured for much of the current campaign, Smalling has come on leaps and bounds and established himself as the club's No. 1 centre-back.
With Daley Blind his most regular partner in the middle of manager Louis van Gaal's defence, the Englishman has led a back line that has conceded just 30 Premier League goals this season in 34 matches, the second-best record in the English top flight.
However, the United defence is still short on depth—Blind has been playing out of position for most of the season—especially with the likes of Jones and Marcos Rojo perennial injury concerns.

The Manchester outfit are likely to go in search of another centre-back in the upcoming summer transfer window and Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels remains a key reported target, per BBC Sport.
The German 2014 FIFA World Cup winner recently told Sky Germany (via DW Sports) that he is still unsure over where his future lies:
Missing out on Ramos was a big blow for United because he could have added much-needed experience, and despite the improvement this season, the Red Devils defence remains short on top-level know-how.
Buying Hummels would solve that problem in one fell swoop, and he could likely form a brilliant partnership with Smalling, which would make United even harder to get past next season.
