IPL 2016: Top 5 Bowlers of Week 1 of Indian Premier League

Antoinette MullerApr 15, 2016

The Indian Premier League is now well under way. The Gujarat Lions have been the team to beat with two wins from two, but there is a long way to go in this tournament.

Totals so far have not been astronomical, and the bowlers have been able to keep a handle on things pretty well. A few have put in outstanding efforts, though, and we’ve picked them out here.

Add your own top performers in the comments.

Brad Hogg

1 of 5

For 45-year-old Brad Hogg, the journey is just beginning. If there is a poster child for proving that Twenty20 is not just for youngsters, it's Hogg.

He's played two fixtures so far and while his figures of nought for 37 against the Mumbai Indians were underwhelming, he took three for 19 against the Delhi Daredevils.

A second wind in your cricketing career is not something every one of his generation is afforded, so Hogg’s efforts are a real delight.

Dwayne Bravo

2 of 5

It’s hardly a surprise that the West Indies players are performing well. As World T20 champions, they have the momentum of having played on these surfaces and the confidence boost of winning the tournament.

At the time of writing, Dwayne Bravo had taken five wickets in two games at an average of 13.00. His most impressive effort came against the Kings XI Punjab, taking four for 22 in Mohali.

Andre Russell

3 of 5

Andre Russell bagged three for 24 during Kolkata Knight Riders' opening fixture against the Delhi Daredevils, and he played his role in dismissing Delhi for just 98 as KKR cruised to a nine-wicket win in their first match of the tournament.

While Delhi's batting left much to be desired, Russell's early wickets—two in his second over—played a big part in throwing the Daredevils off kilter early on.

Ravindra Jadeja

4 of 5

Spinners are definitely the most valuable asset in T20 cricket and Ravindra Jadeja's average of 12.00 after two games is another reminder of that.

Add to that his economy rate of 6.00 and strike rate of 12.00 and it's easy to see why he's earned the nickname "Sir" from adoring fans.

Jadeja is definitely one of the best T20 bowlers in the world at the moment, and there's no doubt he still has a big role to play in the tournament.

John Hastings

5 of 5

John Hastings has bowled just 6.4 overs in two games. He went wicketless in his second match, but his figures of two for six in 2.4 overs against the Delhi Daredevils will be hard to beat this season.

Hastings will have to work hard to keep up the momentum, though, as his figures against the Daredevils were largely thanks to the sheer ineptitude of the batting department.
