Manchester United vs. Aston Villa: Louis van Gaal's Key Pre-Match Presser Quotes

Rory MarsdenApr 15, 2016

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal rejected comparisons between Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the Red Devils' Saturday Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

The 18-year-old striker scored his sixth goal in 11 United appearances on Wednesday as the Manchester outfit advanced past West Ham United to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, per WhoScored.com.

But Van Gaal refused to be drawn on comparisons between the start to Rashford's Old Trafford career and Ronaldo's, per the Mirror's Liam Prenderville:

"

You can compare apples with pears so I don’t agree with what you want to suggest—we have to wait and see.

It is fantastic what Marcus has done so far, but you cannot compare him with Ronaldo, who also played in a different position.

He was not a striker when he was at Manchester United, I believe.

"

The Dutchman also refused to comment on his future at United following recent reports he could lose his job in the summer no matter the outcome of the season, per David McDonnell in the Mirror.

Per the Manchester Evening News' Rob Dawson, Van Gaal had nothing to say on the matter:

He did, though, give his assessment of the current position his side are in, saying he was very satisfied with the situation, per football writer Chris Winterburn:

The 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur last time out in the Premier League saw United slip four points back from fourth-placed Manchester City and put their UEFA Champions League status for next season in further jeopardy.

With the Sky Blues potentially set to drop points this weekend in their Saturday trip to Chelsea—which follows their midweek travails in the Champions League—United have to pick up all three points against Villa.

The Birmingham outfit are all but relegated and have lost each of their last eight matches.

United are heavy favourites to beat Villa at Old Trafford, and they could welcome captain Wayne Rooney back to the side properly after he made the briefest of cameos against West Ham, per United:

With City not playing until Saturday evening, United could move to within just one point of their local rivals with a victory and pile the pressure onto Manuel Pellegrini's side.

And considering the dire form Villa have been in all season, if United cannot beat them at home, then they arguably do not deserve a place in the Premier League's top four.
