Kolkata Knight Riders vs. Mumbai Indians
Mumbai: 188/4 (Sharma 84, McClenaghan two for 25) beat Kolkata: 187/5 (Gambhir 64, Chawla one for 29) by six wickets (with five balls remaining).
Indians won the toss and elected to field, a decision that paid off in the fourth over, as Robin Uthappa (eight from 10) was caught by Kieron Pollard.
But Kolkata didn't let the early setback get the better of them. Pandey came in to partner Gambhir, and the two settled into a nice rhythm, as they steadily built a nice total. While they combined for just 11 boundaries, some smart running led to a score of 81 after 10 overs, and the Knight Riders increased the pace from that point onward.
Cricket writer Ayaz Memon thought Kolkata were on pace for a nice total:
Gambhir and Pandey both crossed the half-century mark, and the latter lasted until the 14th over, at which point the score was already up to 121. Harbhajan Singh caught the 26-year-old, but his replacement, Andre Russell, carried on right where he left off with a quick 36 from 17.

Mitchell McClenaghan bowled Russell in the 18th, and Gambhir's knock came to an end in the next over, as the Indians managed to keep Kolkata's batsmen in check in the final overs to give themselves a chance.
The final total of 187 still looked daunting, and per cricket writer Mohandas Menon, Mumbai hadn't found much success in the past when chasing 188 or more:
McClenaghan finished with figures of of two for 25 in his four overs, while Singh chipped in with figures of one for 31. Jagadeesha Suchith gave up 31 runs in just two overs.
Sharma and Parthiv Patel (23 from 20) started at a solid pace, scoring 18 in the first two overs, but the required run rate soon dropped beneath that of Kolkata.
Patel was run out in the sixth over, with the chase sitting at 53 runs, and at the halfway point, Mumbai were sitting on 87. Memon couldn't pick a winner yet:
Hardik Pandya (nine from 10) was caught by Pandey on the first delivery of the 11th, setting up a tense period in the match where neither team managed to grab momentum.
Jos Buttler's short but fine knock (41 from 22) made the difference, however, as the Brit found the boundary on several occasions in the 15th and 16th overs to push Mumbai's required run rate under that of Kolkata.

McClenaghan (20 from eight) also did his part, and with Russell (one for 52) struggling with the ball, the penultimate over proved to be key, as Mumbai hit four fours off the West Indies star to tie things up. Pollard completed the chase with a single.
Piyush Chawla led Kolkata's bowlers with figures of one for 29, but overall, the Knight Riders disappointed with the ball. John Hastings finished with an economy rate of 7.75, the lowest of anyone on the team.
Per ESPNcricinfo, Gambhir thought his team should have done a better job taking wickets:
"We needed to take wickets all the time, we didn't start well with the ball. We missed our lengths quite often. Credit to Mumbai, they accelerated at the right time. If someone bats through, it was difficult. We thought that spinners would be more effective than the pacers. They just played well, I can't point out one or two things.
"
Kolkata's vaunted group of bowlers let them down on Wednesday, and that's bad news for the Knight Riders, as the team will only go as far as their bowling will carry them. It's still early in the season, however, and in all likelihood, the unit will improve as a whole as time goes on.
Mumbai looked much improved after their disappointing loss in the opener against Pune Supergiants, thanks to the heroics of Sharma. Offence remains the team's biggest strength, but the bowlers looked solid against Kolkata, and they'll play a key role in Mumbai's quest for another IPL title.
