Chelsea Transfer News: Alvaro Morata Rumours Stun Rivals, Romelu Lukaku Latest

Matt JonesApr 13, 2016

The next Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, reportedly wants to lure Juventus forward Alvaro Morata to the club this summer ahead of their Premier League rivals.

According to Calciomercato (h/t Alex Harris of the Daily Star), the young striker could return to Real Madrid due to a buyback clause in his current deal. However, it's noted that Los Blancos are planning on "flogging him to the highest bidder," with Arsenal, Liverpool and now the Blues all said to be keen.

Since leaving the Spanish capital to join up with the Italian champions, Morata has blossomed as a footballer. Here are some of the most memorable goals he's scored for Juventus:

In his first term, the forward netted a succession of key goals as the Bianconeri made it to the final of the 2014-15 UEFA Champions League, where they were eventually beaten by Barcelona. However, the Spain international finished his debut campaign with the club as a Coppa Italia and Serie A winner.

Morata helped Juventus to a successful season in his debut campaign.

This season saw Morata struggle to hit top gear initially, but as this graphic from WhoScored.com shows, as of late, he's started to rediscover some form again:

Harris stated that Chelsea's attacking options may be revamped completely by Conte, noting there are significant doubts as to whether the likes of Diego Costa and Loic Remy will be at the club next term. Additionally, David Woods of the Daily Star (h/t Harris) reported that the new manager wants to keep on-loan forward Alexandre Pato at the club.

Morata could be an ideal option to lead the line at Chelsea. The Spanish international doesn't excel in any particular area, but he's quick, strong in possession and has a tremendous work rate. He seems well-suited to English football, and if the Blues can leap ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal in pursuit of the player, those who frequent Stamford Bridge should be excited.

According to Sami Mokbel of  MailOnline, Chelsea will seek to capitalise on the fact Everton could owe the Blues money as part of the deal that took Romelu Lukaku to Goodison Park.

The Toffees parted with a club-record £28 million to land the Belgium international striker in 2014, and, according to Mokbel, it's a deal that contains a "myriad of clauses" based on the player's performance. It's noted that Everton want £65 million for the youngster, but "Chelsea will use any money owed to them from their agreement with Everton to help reduce the price" of a possible pursuit.

As stated in the report, Lukaku has expressed his desire to play Champions League football next term, something he would not be privy to with either Everton or Chelsea. These numbers suggest he'd be capable of thriving in Europe's elite competition, per Squawka Football:

Still, it'd be an odd move for the player. While a lot has changed at Stamford Bridge since he left the club, Lukaku is a footballer who seems keen to achieve his ambitions quickly and move forward in his career. Granted, at Everton he's looking unlikely to do so, but at the moment, Chelsea have plenty of rebuilding to do themselves.

The 22-year-old has a lot of refinements to make in his game too, as Click Liverpool's Patrick Boyland noted after the 1-1 draw with Watford recently:

Perhaps Lukaku would be keen to return to Stamford Bridge and prove he can be a big success for the club. But after his wonderful goalscoring this season it'd be fruitless to do so, especially if, as Mokbel noted, "a host of Europe's top clubs [are] monitoring his situation."
