Jordan Brand Classic 2016: Rosters, TV Schedule, Live Stream and Preview

Nate LoopApr 14, 2016

Basketball fans who missed out on the McDonald's All-American events will have another chance to watch the best prep players in the nation play some ball before they join the college ranks.

The 2016 Jordan Brand Classic will pit some of the best high school hoops players against each other in a high-profile exhibition on Friday, April 15, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

For partisan college hoops fans, it's a good time to appreciate these young athletes before they go to college and end up wrecking your favorite team's shot at the conference title or bounce your alma mater from the NCAA tournament.

There are three games to check out on Friday. The day starts with the International contest, followed by the All-American Girls contest and then capped by the All-American Boys contest.

Boys Game Preview

Though not nearly as prestigious as the McDonald's All-American Game, the Jordan Brand Classic still fields its fair share of high-profile recruits. At No. 3 in 247Sports' composite rankings, Kentucky-bound point guard De'Aaron Fox is the highest-rated player set to hit the court on Friday in the boys game.

The lightning-quick floor general will probably be happy if he can improve upon his McDonald's All-American performance, where he managed seven assists but scored just two points on 1-of-8 shooting from the floor.

Other standouts from the McDonald's All-American Game suiting up Friday include Frank Jackson, who will play at Duke, and Edrice "Bam" Adebayo, a lanky power forward set to team up with Fox on another one of coach John Calipari's talented squads.

Continuing with the Duke and Kentucky theme here, Marques Bolden has yet to choose a school for next year, but the choice is down to either the Blue Devils or Wildcats, per 247Sports' Adam Rowe.

His decision will lead to instant bragging rights for whichever program is lucky enough to snag him. According to Rowe, "whichever school he commits to will land the No. 1 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings."

Not all the top players will be on the court for this contest. Harry Giles is listed on the roster, but he is still working his way back from an ACL tear. Josh Jackson, the No. 1 overall player, according to 247Sports, is conspicuously absent from the roster.

According to Prolific Prep co-director Philippe Doherty, the uber-athletic swingman—who recently announced he will play for Kansas next season—won't be available for the game due to "academic demands and travel," per the Lansing State Journal's Jim Halley.

One player who will have a little extra motivation to put on a show is Brooklyn native Shamorie Ponds. He'll likely have a strong backing from the crowd when he hits the court on Friday.

“I’m just excited to get selected to that game, especially because it is in my hometown,” Ponds said, per BrooklynDaily.com's Joseph Staszewski. “I’m just looking forward to putting on a show.”

If past results are any indication, the standout players from the showcase should be tabbed for stardom. Many of the top NBA players have participated in this game. None other than LeBron James holds the Jordan Brand Classic scoring record with 34 points in 2003. Jahlil Okafor and Anthony Davis are right behind him at 29.

Tune in to watch the game, and there's a decent chance the players who catch your eye and take over on Friday will go on to dominate at the highest levels of the sport.
