Neymar's Alleged Contract Details Leaked, Revealing Barcelona Salary

Barcelona star Neymar's wages have been revealed by Football Leaks, and he allegedly earns just £77,000 a week—over three times less than Manchester United's Wayne Rooney. 

The Sun's Toby Gannon shared the revelations from Football Leaks, with the Brazilian paid €5 million each year by Barca, or "just over £4 million." Meanwhile, according to the MailOnline's Joe Bernstein, Rooney earns £260,000 each week, which is over £13 million each year.

According to Forbes, his Barca team-mate Lionel Messi collects $50 million in wages per year—around £35 million. Here is how Neymar's weekly earnings compare with some of the Premier League's highest earners, also reported by Bernstein:

While Neymar's basic wages may seem low by comparison—he is on less than half of what Manchester City's Raheem Sterling earns—he has plenty of potential for bonuses, per Gannon.

The Brazilian will earn a further €1,062,500 (£851,000) if he plays at least 45 minutes in 60 per cent of the Blaugrana's matches and €637,500 (£511,000) when they qualify for the UEFA Champions League. If the Catalan giants win Europe's elite competition he receives a bonus of €850,000 (£681,000) the same for the Copa del Rey and €637,500 (£511,000) for La Liga.

Further, "if Barca win the Champions League and Copa del Rey, the premium rises to €1,062,500 [£851,000] and if they bag the treble Neymar would collect €1.7 million" (£1,363,000), provided he played at least half of their matches in that competition.

Neymar was instrumental as the club claimed an historic treble last season and played the required amount of games in all three competitions to pick up the maximum bonuses in each.

Lastly, the 24-year-old narrowly missed out on an extra €425,000 (£340,000) in January as he finished third in the race for the FIFA Ballon d'Or—a figure he would have picked up had he won the gong ahead of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neymar's contract and potential renewal have been the subject of speculation for some months. In February, Barcelona-based football writer Rafael Hernandez reported the forward had reached an agreement with the club over a new deal to be signed in the summer:

Over the last two seasons he has developed from a highly talented but perhaps inconsistent flair player into one of the best in the world alongside team-mates Messi and Luis Suarez. He has been in top form this campaign with 27 goals and 23 assists to his name in all competitions, and Barca may yet win a second successive treble.

Per Shortlist (h/t Rob Dawson of the Manchester Evening News), Messi recently described United's Rooney as "the great English player of the generation," but the striker has done little on the pitch to justify his enormous salary this season.

Assuming Neymar does sign a new deal at the Camp Nou rather than make a sensational move elsewhere, the Brazilian will likely be much closer to Rooney's wages than he is currently. Barca will no doubt recognise that if they are to keep him at the club, he'll need to be earning comparable money to their rivals' top stars.
