Masters 2016 Leaderboard: Live Look at Friday Scores and Overall Predictions

Joe PantornoApr 8, 2016

The field is chasing Jordan Spieth in Friday's second round of the Masters. With blustery conditions at Augusta, one of the world's most famous courses was extremely difficult to navigate.

Friday isn't going to provide any reprieves, either, as players will have to earn the right to lower their scores.

Let's take a look at the live leaderboard and predict who will come out of Augusta wearing the green jacket:

Overall Predictions

Jordan Spieth Will Hold Off Jason Day

Let the first round of the Masters be a warning to the golfing world: Jordan Spieth is back. Though it isn't really fair to say that he went anywhere after his enormous 2015 season.

But a slow 2016 start that saw a dip in his play has looked like a thing of the past at Augusta, especially when he silenced any doubters about his putting abilities, via the PGA Tour:

More importantly, he had a clean round on Thursday, which was even more impressive given the fact that winds ranged from 10-25 miles per hour. All he needed was one bad shot, just one in which he left it hanging a bit too high to get caught up in the wind, and things could have unraveled.

But that didn't happen, and Spieth set himself up perfectly to stay atop the leaderboard over the final rounds.

The problem is, he is going to have to deal with Jason Day, who would have applied a lot more pressure to Spieth on Friday had he not triple-bogeyed No. 16.

Day is on a mission to become the first Australian to win the Masters and is in pursuit of his second major victory to add to his 2015 PGA Championship win.

If he continues to make shots like these, via the Masters, then there's no denying that he'll be near the top of the leaderboard:

It's been a while since he challenged for a win at the Masters. In his first appearance at the tournament in 2011 he tied for second, and he finished third in 2013.

Since then it's been a struggle for Day, who finished tied for 20th in 2014 and tied for 28th last year.

Day has been hot lately, though, including a win at the WGC-Dell Match Play that leapfrogged him over Spieth and into the world's No. 1 ranking.

A tough end to the first round shouldn't spell the end of his tournament, Expect to see him toward the top in no time. But it might be too big of a deficit to catch Spieth, who just looks unstoppable right now.

Prediction: Jordan Spieth wins the Masters with a 14-under overall. Jason Day in second with a 12-under.
