Hole-in-Ones, Happy Gilmore Celebrations Highlight Masters Par 3 Contest

Kyle NewportJun 8, 2018

When you see the putt Nick Faldo made during the 2016 Masters Par 3 Contest on Monday, you will find yourself quoting Happy Gilmore broadcaster Verne Lundquist

"Hold it. Hold it. Hold it. Noooooo!"

On Hole 7, Faldo channeled his inner Happy Gilmore by playing the green and sending the ball a long way from the hole, only to have it eventually drop in the cup. As it rolled to the hole, the golfer turned his club into a fishing rod to finish the job.

Somewhere out there, Shooter McGavin is having flashbacks—and still can't believe his eyes.

But it was far from the day's only reference to the beloved golf comedy.

Soren Kjeldsen’s son gave his best rendition of the bull dance, setting off astride his bucking putter at the first sight of his ball rolling in.

Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler, too, found cause for tremendous celebration.

Thomas dropped in an ace of his own on Hole 4.

And Fowler loved it so much, he decided to immediately follow it up with one of his own.

Although the new generation did an excellent job of showcasing its talents, 80-year-old Gary Player held it down for the legends.

The South African turned in the 31st ace of his career on Hole 7, becoming the oldest player to record a hole-in-one in the history of the Masters Par 3 Contest.
