What's Next for Triple H After Passing the Torch to Roman Reigns?
WrestleMania 32 was laden with history but perhaps none more important than a long plan coming to fruition.
For quite some time, Triple H and Roman Reigns had been slated to fight one-on-one. Ever since they fought each other as members of The Shield and Evolution, they have been destined to cross paths.
Destiny was fulfilled at WrestleMania 32, where Reigns regained the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Triple H. It took two Spears to dethrone the King of Kings and claim what was once his: that world heavyweight title.

It also marked something we haven’t seen in a while: the old guard paving the way for the new guard. Reigns had his WrestleMania moment, mainly due to Triple H.
WrestleMania 32 saw Triple H successfully pass the torch to Reigns, but what’s next for the former WWE champion?
One must wonder if Triple H has a rematch clause in his contract. It’s a rarity for former champions to not have a rematch clause after losing a title. In fact, almost every prior champion has had a rematch at some point.
In recent memory, the last two titleholders who haven’t ordered a rematch were The Rock and Seth Rollins. Both occurrences were under rare circumstances, as The Rock went on to do more movies, while Rollins vacated his title due to a knee injury.
It's not a matter of "if" Triple H gets his title rematch. As a member of The Authority, he’s now the figurehead of WWE.
Granted, he and Stephanie McMahon weren’t running the show on Monday's Raw. Shane McMahon was, and he had a No. 1 Contender match with AJ Styles winning against Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens and Cesaro.
Styles is next in line to face Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
You really think Triple H will take that lying down? There’s no chance he sits this one out again.
If WWE Creative had the presence of mind, it’d have Triple H interfere in Reigns’ impending match with Styles. Have him ambush Reigns, stating they have unfinished business.
Fans would be annoyed, considering Triple H would cause interference for a matchup between two marquee WWE Superstars. But the result of this action would put Triple H back in the main event picture once again.
When would this happen? It could be as soon as the next week or the next event, which is ironically named Payback.
The real issue is why Triple H would go after Reigns again. Their feud is over, with Reigns gaining the upper hand. Then again, their match at WrestleMania proved there’s still some unresolved bad blood.
At WrestleMania 32’s main event, The Game’s assault on Reigns was relentless. He used a combination of submissions and brawling to wear Reigns down. The former WWE champion even went to the air to incapacitate Reigns. At one point during the match, he connected with a vicious knee drop to the back of Reigns’ head.
He targeted Reigns’ reconstructed nose, the same one he broke several weeks ago.
The Game also capitalized on Reigns’ injured left arm, as he bent Reigns’ arm in an uncomfortable submission. It was reminiscent of the Rings of Saturn, with one arm trapped under a wrestler’s weight as the other is pulled backward from its socket.
Reigns mounted his comeback—but not before he inadvertently Speared Stephanie McMahon in the ring. Shortly after, Reigns reclaimed his title.
There’s your reason for a rematch. Accident or not, Triple H has both personal and professional reasons to once more seek retribution against Reigns.
Where does that leave Triple H? As The Game stated shortly after he won the title in January, he never needed the title. He merely wanted it. If Triple H wants a rematch, he’ll make it. After the outcome of WrestleMania 32, can you blame him?
Until then, we’re in the midst of the Roman Reigns era (also known as the Roman Empire). All thanks to Triple H.
