25 People Sports Social Media Hilariously Called Out, Part 2

Laura DeptaApr 5, 2016

At long last, it's Part 2 of the latest sports social media victims.

Part 1 told the hilarious tales of Alex Rodriguez's retirement indecision and Bill Murray's sad face. Social media was not kind to either gent, and it wasn't to those in this second installment, either.

Now, it's D'Angelo Russell time.

Tyronn Lue

Poor Tyronn Lue. All he did was accept a job with one of the NBA's best teams. Lue replaced David Blatt as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers when Blatt was unceremoniously relieved of his duties in January.

Right away, the Internet came up with a perfect meme for the situation, a Photoshopped recreation of that one time Allen Iverson literally stepped over Lue during the 2001 NBA Finals:

The insinuation was obviously that Lue had stepped over Blatt, and the meme also drew attention back to a moment in which Lue got embarrassed by A.I. Not great.

Later, in March, Cavs guard Iman Shumpert threw his towel over Lue's shoulder during a loss to the Houston Rockets, a move many on social media interpreted as indicative of a lack of respect for Lue. Let's cut the guy a break, eh?

LeBron James

Speaking of the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James has been all over the news lately for nonbasketball-related stuff like possibly subtweeting his teammates, expressing a desire to create another superteam and stepping on his coach's toes.

Through it all, James continues to be a polarizing figure. Some on social media support him, but others have questioned his leadership:

Others have accused him of being all about that drama:

Andy Dalton

In February, luggage belonging to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton apparently fell out of his truck. Dalton turned to Twitter for help finding it, and the responses were predictable:

This story has a happy ending though. Someone actually found the suitcases and returned them to Dalton. And then he lost them again. SMH.

Blair Walsh

Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh took some serious social media heat in January for missing a 27-yard field goal that would have advanced his team in the NFL playoffs.

Walsh (who, for the record, scored all nine of the Vikings' other points in the game), became the subject of many-a-Ray Finkle reference on Twitter. Mentions of the equally afflicted former Buffalo Bills kicker Scott Norwood were abundant as well:

At least these first-graders were nice to the guy.

Jeremy Lin

The original "Linsanity" surrounding now-Charlotte Hornets guard Jeremy Lin was about his on-court play. Now it's about his hair. For real, the man has a new hairstyle practically every night:

The reception is not always positive. In March, Charlotte Wilder of For the Win compared his slicked-back look to that of a used-car salesman. During a game in January, his spiky 'do actually had a run-in with Milwaukee Bucks guard Jerryd Bayless' eye.

Lin's evolving hair continues to be a popular subject on social media. It's not all bad, but enough of it is:

Pablo Sandoval

Spring training 2016 did not mark the first time the subject of Pablo Sandoval's weight has come up.

Still, an unflattering photo of the Red Sox infielder's midsection surfaced in February, reigniting old conversations:

Twitter can be a cruel place:

For the record, team president Dave Dombrowski told Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald at the time, "From our perspective, it's more of a positive. If you were thinking he was going to be svelte, it's not going to happen." Touche.

Matt Dumba

Poor Matt Dumba. The Minnesota Wild defenseman was in the wrong place at the wrong time during a February game against the Calgary Flames.

Flames forward David Jones bounced a shot off Dumba's head/face that proceeded to enter the goal. Point, Flames. At least the Wild won the game, otherwise the collective cackles of Twitter might have been harder to swallow:

Eli Manning

After a late touchdown made it apparent the Denver Broncos had all but wrapped up Super Bowl 50, all Mannings were thrilled—except one.

Eli Manning, the younger brother of Denver quarterback Peyton Manning, looked positively bummed in that moment, and the Internet took notice:

The younger Manning later clarified he was simply deep in concentration about the impending two-point conversion attempt. Suuure.

Sean Miller

Coaching is a tough job, and seriously, the March Madness gyms have to get hot, right? All those people, all those high stakes.

And yet, it was still rather alarming to see Arizona head coach Sean Miller sweat completely through his dress shirt during his team's loss to Wichita State.

This is not even meant as a shot at the poor guy, but man, that was crazy. Twitter was rather brutal:

(Yikes.)

Russell Wilson

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and singer Ciara got engaged in early March after dating for some time.

However, even before the proposal, the two made a habit of getting all ooey-gooey with each other on social media:

Luckily for the rest of the world, Wilson provided some comedic relief in January. Internet trolls discovered he most likely Googled "How to describe a beautiful woman" in search of material for a #WCW post, according to Barry Petchesky of Deadspin.

True or not, social media users obviously mocked him for it:

A guy can't even Google pickup lines in peace anymore. Sad.

Phil Jackson

New York Knicks president Phil Jackson has an interesting Twitter account. Most recently, one of his tweets included this little gem: "#embrace the serpent." Whatever that means.

Back in February, others in the land of social media jumped down Jackson's proverbial throat after he tweeted this:

Twitter did not appreciate the Zen Master comparing the NBA MVP to a comparatively average player. Exhibit A:

Of course, it's possible Jackson is a trolling savant and just does stuff like this to mess with people.

Charles Barkley

NBA great Charles Barkley appeared on the CBS Selection Sunday broadcast and injected some hilarity into the rather dull show.

Attempting to make his picks via touch screen, Barkley simply could not figure it out. Cue the Internet mocking:

People did love the entertainment, though. And never one to take himself too seriously, Barkley later told Dan Patrick on his radio show (via Nina Mandell of For the Win), "Oh yeah we practiced a little bit but when they said touch it it's don't touch it move right away, I'm not going crazy over it. It's fun though, it's fun."

D'Angelo Russell

The Los Angeles Lakers have a big problem—and no, it's not their ghastly 2015-16 season. Rookie point guard D'Angelo Russell recorded a video that appeared to show teammate Nick Young talking about cheating on his fiancee (you know her as Iggy Azalea).

The video somehow got out, and even though Swaggy P is the one who looks like a dog here, the Internet unleashed on Russell, admonishing him for an utter disrespect of the so-called bro code:

Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes joined in, killing two birds with one stone (Russell and his nemesis Derek Fisher) with one troll-tastic post.

Iggy herself responded with this:

Hopefully this has been educational, everyone. Basically, if you're any kind of public figure, develop a thick skin or stay off social media.
